Macon GA ----Three Macon residents have been charged with murder and child cruelty in
connection with the death of a 1-year-old girl, according to Macon police.
Brandi Ellis, of Ashland Drive, died Saturday in the pediatric intensive care
unit at The Medical Center of Central Georgia. An autopsy performed Monday
revealed the girl died of blunt force trauma, said Bibb County Coroner Leon
Jones.
Capt. Jimmy Barbee said the girl’s mother and godparents were charged with
murder Monday.
They were initially arrested Friday on charges of cruelty to children in the
first degree, said Macon police Sgt. Nicole Ard.
Ard said the adults denied medical attention for the child, who suffered
multiple bruises, fractures and head injuries.
She was unresponsive when she arrived at the hospital Thursday.
The mother, 25-year-old Yonshea Ellis, of Ashland Drive, was released on
$8,450 bond Saturday, according to Bibb County jail records. Barbee said Ellis
was back in custody Monday.
The godparents, 26-year-old Lashundra Monique Davis and 27-year-old Robert
Lee Glover, both of Ashland Drive, are being held at the jail on $5,700 bond,
according to jail records.

Trial postponed for man charged in toddler’s 2010 death

The trial for a man charged with murder in the 2010 death of a Bibb County toddler was postponed Wednesday after the discovery of new evidence in the case.

A jury was chosen Monday for the trial of Lashundra Monique Davis, 31, and Robert Glover, 32, in the death of 15-month-old Brandi Ellis.

Just before opening statements were scheduled to begin Tuesday, though, Davis pleaded guilty to cruelty to children.

As a result of her plea, new evidence came to light that needs further investigation before Glover can go to trial, Judge Howard Simms told jurors as he released them from duty Wednesday morning.

Ellis died at a hospital March 20, 2010. Authorities contend she was in the care of Davis, Glover and her mother, 30-year-old Yonshae Larie Ellis, when she sustained injuries that led to her death. Besides a head injury, the child had a fractured thumb, leg, shoulder and ribs, according to an indictment in the case.

The three adults were charged with murder.

Simms reserved sentencing for Davis until after she testifies at Glover’s trial. She will remain out on bond until the trial, which has not been scheduled.

Glover and Ellis, whose case is being handled separately, also have been released on bond.
