Spokane WA ---- A Spokane man has been arrested on
charges that he physically assaulted his two-month-old daughter.
Tyler Jamison was arrested Wednesday night and booked into the Spokane
County Jail for 1st Degree Assault. His arrest comes two days after police were
called to a local hospital to investigate the assault of his two-month old baby
girl. The child is not expected to survive her injuries.
According to court documents, Jamison and his girlfriend had a baby girl
named Skylynn on February 8th. On the morning of April 5th, Skylynn's mother
changed the baby's diaper and saw nothing unusual. Jamison drove her to school
and when he picked her up a few hours later, told her the baby wasn't acting
normally. They took Skylynn to Holy Family Hospital and she was found to be in
medical distress. She was transferred to Sacred Heart.
Doctors at Sacred Heart examined Skylynn and found bruising on her jaw, chest,
back and groin. She also has multiple broken ribs in various stages of healing,
suggesting the ribs were broken at different times
. Doctors also found a large
subdural hematoma
, which is a collection of blood at the surface of the brain.
Tuesday, Skylynn was placed on a ventilator. According to court records, her
pupils are fixed and dilated and her brain scan shows no activity
.
Monday, Tyler Jamison agreed to a voluntary interview with Spokane
Police. He told Spokane Police Detective Mark Burbridge that when Skylynn cries,
he gets frustrated and he would pinch off her windpipe with his fingers. He told
police he was doing this several times a day and his fingernail marks were
showing up on Skylynn's neck. Jamison told police he didn't want anyone to know
what he was doing, so he started cupping his hand over Skylynn's nose and mouth
when she started crying. Tyler told police he did this to prevent her from
breathing and she would stop crying.
Court records also show Jamison told police that sometimes he would force
Skylynn's face to his chest when she would cry. He thought he may have broken
her ribs by squeezing her with his forearm. Jamison told police that after he
dropped the child's mother off at school Monday, Skylynn began crying. He said
when he got home, he pinched off her airway until she was pale and her lips were
blue. Jamison said when he released Skylynn's windpipe, she started making noise
again so he cupped his hand over her nose and mouth. He said when he released
his hand, she was unresponsive. She eventually opened her eyes and he noticed
they were looking in different directions and her breathing was raspy and
"didn't sound right."
According to court records, Jamison called Skylynn's doctor and told him
about Skylynn's eyes looking in different directions. The little girl had a
doctor's appointment scheduled for later that day. Jamison asked if he could
bring her in earlier, but the doctor told him to take her to the hospital
immediately. He did not do that, instead waiting until noon to bring her to the
hospital; that was about four hours after the ordeal began.
Jamison appeared in court Thursday afternoon, charged with First Degree
Assault. Those charges will likely be upgraded upon the child's death.

SKYELYNN JAMISON - 2 months - Spokane WA Empty Police: Baby brain dead after father’s assault

Post by cindmo Sat Apr 10, 2010 4:35 am

When medics first saw Skyelynn Jamison this week, the two-month-old girl had a serious head injury, broken ribs and bruises all over her body.
Her father, 18-year-old Tyler L. Jamison, told a doctor on the phone earlier that he thought something was wrong, but police say he ignored orders to take the girl to a hospital immediately.
Now Skyelynn is on life support at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center, and Jamison is in Spokane County Jail on a first-degree assault charge that police say will be amended to a homicide charge if Skyelynn dies. The girl is not expected to survive, said police spokeswoman Officer Jennifer DeRuwe.
Detectives arrested Jamison late Wednesday after his girlfriend’s family told 911 dispatchers he planned to leave town to escape arrest.
Spokane County District Court Judge Debra Hayes called the police description of the case “difficult for anyone to read” before ruling Jamison a flight risk Thursday. His bail was set at $200,000.
Jamison took Skyelynn to Providence Holy Family Hospital about noon Monday. That was hours after a doctor told him to bring the girl in immediately when Jamison said her eyes were “looking in different directions.” Doctors at Holy Family said the girl was in medical distress and rushed her to Sacred Heart.
Jamison denied hurting Skyelynn in an interview with detectives that day, but the next day, he reportedly described weeks of abuse sparked by Skyelynn crying.
Jamsion told police he got very frustrated a lost control when the baby started crying, according to documents prepared by detectives. “Tyler said starting in about mid March, he began using his fingers to pinch off Skyelynn’s windpipe when she would start crying.”
He cut off her breathing until she turned pale “a couple times a day until his fingernails started leaving scratches and cuts on Skyelynn’s skin,” according to the documents. He didn’t want anyone to notice what he was doing, so “he started cupping his hand over Skyelynn’s nose and mouth when she would cry.”
Jamison also reportedly told police that he sometimes squeezed Skylynn and may have broken ribs. Medics said the girl’s ribs appeared to have been broken at different times.
On Monday, the day Skyelynn was taken to the hospital, Jamison told police the baby began crying after he took her mother and his girlfriend, Kelsey Goble, to school about 7:30 a.m.
Jamison first pinched the girl’s windpipe until she was pale and her lips blue, then released his fingers but cupped his hand over her mouth and nose “for an unknown period of time,” according to court documents.
When he released his hand, Skyelynn’s eyes were looking in different directions and her breathing was raspy, authorities allege. Jamison told detectives he jabbed his finger against her chest to try to get her to breathe but that she was “very limp,” according to court documents.
Jamison picked up Goble about 10:30 a.m. and said their daughter’s eyes “had been acting funny and her breathing was not normal.” Skyelynn arrived at Holy Family about noon.
Skyelynn is the third Spokane baby in two years to suffer fatal injuries allegedly at the hands of a caretaker.

I hear you Elaina. Reading about these cases every day makes me want to do something to stop it from happening. I'm not making excuses for what he did but I think one way of preventing it from happening is to try to stop all these young ill equipped teenagers from becoming parents in the first place. Society seems to have gone to hell in a handbasket with kids having babies having put no thought into it. They do it as easily as they buy a new pair of jeans. Young men are hunters and gatherers. They don't want to change nappies and care for a crying infant for more than 5 minutes. Humans are conditioned the same as lions are. Male lions do not raise the cubs. If the mother lion leaves them they will kill the cubs. Every time a baby is born we need to be asking whether it's safe to allow the baby to go home with the mother. We need to look at her age, her support, where the baby will live and who else will be living there. If the parents are ill equipped teenagers we as society have no right to send that baby off without being sure that the baby will be well cared for and safe.
They should have visits weekly by social workers. I'm angry at what this 18 year old father did but how can I blame him entirely when I know he should never have been in the position of caregiver in the first place?

Welcome cameronxx1. I know it must be hard to imagine someone you know to be a gentle person could do this, but it happens all too often. It is not about how much they love a child, or about wanting to hurt a child. It happens because young men are not naturally gifted with the nurturing feelings that are biologically ingrained in women. It is the mothers job to nurture her baby and unfortunately they hand that role to their boyfriend or husband all too often these days. Young men don't have the instinct a mother has to know what a baby needs and when they can't stop the baby crying they become frustrated. Feelings of inadequacy and frustration turn to anger and I assure you any young man is capable of loosing his temper and hurting a child.
If you have children you must understand this. Please never leave your young children with a young man no matter how nice he is while you go to school or work. If grandparents aren't available use a proper childcare center.

A father accused of nearly killing his
two-month-old baby girl appeared in Spokane county court Tuesday
afternoon and answered to charges of 1st Degree Assault of a Child.Tyler
Jamison pleaded not guilty Tuesday afternoon even though, according to
court documents, he’s confessed to abusing his infant daughter Skyelynn.
He told investigators he would get frustrated when she cried.Among
the people in the courtroom was Kelsey Goble, Skyelynn's mother and
Jamison's ex-girlfriend. She says she was completely unaware of the
abuse
and never wants to see Jamison again.
As a prosecutor read the details of Jamison’s confession to the court
Jamison kept his head down.Jamison's mother was in the courtroom
Tuesday and asked the judge to eliminate the $200,000 bond, saying her
son is not a threat to society and doesn’t have a criminal record.Judge
Ellen Clark reduced the bond by $100,000 and said that if he does pay
the bond she ordered Jamison not to have any contact with children
including his daughter. His trial date has been set for June 21st.Skyelynn’s
condition has drastically improved
according to her mother Kelsey.
Whereas doctors once thought she was in grave condition Skyelynn has
been recovering from her injuries and could get out of the hospital as
early as this week.

An 18-year-old father pleaded not guilty today to charges that he
abused his infant daughter to the point that she was once diagnosed as
being brain dead.Tyler L. Jamison, 18, faces a charge of
first-degree assault that Spokane Police previously said would be
amended to murder charges if the 3-month-old girl dies. “He’s
demonstrated … that he is in fact a danger to this community,” said
Deputy Spokane County Prosecutor Sharon Hedlund, “especially to his own
daughter.” Jamison told a doctor on April 5 that something was
wrong with his daughter, Skyelynn. But it was hours before Jamison took
the girl to Providence Holy Family Hospital. The infant, who was in
medical distress, was then rushed to Providence Sacred Heart Medical
Center. A nursing supervisor at Sacred Heart said he could not
discuss Skyelynn’s condition, but family members have since reported
that Skeylynn is improving.Hedlund described how Jamison admitted
pinching the girl’s windpipe shut during attempts to get her to stop
crying. “After she stopped responding … he jabbed his finger against her
chest to get her to breathe,” she said. The girl also had several
broken ribs in various stages of healing.Jamison’s mother,
Michelle Jamison, asked Superior Court Judge Ellen Kalama Clark to
reduce her son’s bond from $200,000.“I just know my son would be
fine in the community and I would be there right next to him the whole
time,” she said.Clark agreed to reduce the bond to $100,000 but
ordered Jamison to stay away from children if he is released.Assistant
Public Defender Jeffrey Compton added that Jamison has no criminal
history before his arrest on April 7, which came after the girl’s
mother’s family told police that Jamison intended to leave town to avoid
charges.Skyelynn’s mother, who attended the hearing, said she
could not comment. But Jamison’s mother implicated her in some of the
girl’s injuries.“He’s not the only one who is guilty,” Michelle
Jamison said. “He’s a good kid.”

I am sure it's hard to imagine people we know and care about doing such horrible things to their own children. But sweetie, did you read the testimony he gave to the police? Just unbelieveable that a parent would do such things.

Praying for this family! SKYELYNN JAMISON - 2 months - Spokane WA 719242
