"Toddler John Doe" - 2 yo - Fort Worth TX
Fort Worth TX ---- Toxicology tests on a 2-year-old boy hospitalized
Sunday for seizures revealed that he had amphetamines and
methamphetamine in his system, according to a Fort Worth police report. The
crimes against children unit is investigating how the boy got the
drugs.According to a police report, the boy was taken to
the emergency room at Cook
Children's Medical Center on Sunday morning. His mother indicated
that he "had got into something" and was having seizures. The
mother told police that she and her boyfriend had gone to a party
Saturday night and had returned to their apartment about 1:30 a.m.
Sunday. She said several people were inside the residence with her son
and other children when the couple returned home. The mother told
police that she and her boyfriend had gone to sleep and were awakened
about 8 a.m. Sunday when her brother brought her son into her room to
sleep."A few moments after he climbed into her bed, she noticed
his body was hot," the report states. "She turned on her light and saw
that his eyes were crossed. She stated that he began shaking and she
took his temperature."The boy had a 104-degree temperature, and
the woman called 911, the report states. The report states that
the boy was admitted to the hospital because of the potential of serious
injury or death. His condition was not available Monday. A
hospital spokeswoman said she could not confirm whether the child was a
patient. The boy's grandmother told police that she had been
watching her grandchildren while her daughter and daughter's boyfriend
were out and that she did not see anything or anyone out of the
ordinary. The grandmother also told police that she takes several
medications for various illnesses but that she was not missing any
medication. Doctors confirmed that none of her medications would cause
the toxicology tests to indicate the presence of methamphetamine and
amphetamines.Police also talked to the mother's brother, who had
spent the night at the apartment, according to the police report. The
brother told officers that he also did not know how his nephew could
have gotten the drugs."I only smoke weed," the report quotes the
man as telling officers. "I don't know what the other stuff looks like.
He could have gotten it from anybody. Somebody could have had it in
their pockets and it fell out."
