A two-year-old Plano child custody case is getting media
attention in Louisiana after U.S. Marshals there announced
they have joined an international manhunt for a 28-year-old father
accused of taking off with his three-year-old son.

Michael Blasingame and Diana Huynh were married and had a son, Eitan,
in Dallas in fall 2006. The couple split up, and a custody dispute
ensued.

Blasingame, who was living in Lafayette, was supposed to bring Eitan
to his mother's house in Plano in March 2008, but never showed up,
authorities say. Diana Huynh contacted police and
The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children also
has a section on Eitan's disappearance.

Blasingame faces federal charges of international parental kidnapping
and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution, authorities say. He is also
wanted in Collin County for interference with a child custody order.

On Friday, U.S. Marshals announced the arrest of Blasingame's mother,
Renee Blasingame, 51. She also faces interference with child custody
charges out of Collin County for allegedly sending her son money to
finance his global travels, which included stops with Eitan in Mexico
City, Germany, Yemen, Ethiopia, Thailand and Malaysia, authorities say.

Renee Blasingame is being held at the Lafayette Parish Correctional
Center, but faces extradition to Collin County.

Investigators are focusing their efforts to find a Lafayette man and his
toddler son in Malaysia, the last country in which the pair were reportedly spotted.
Authorities suspect Michael Blasingame kidnapped his 3-year-old son,
Eitan, in 2008 and has since traveled around the world with him,
including to Mexico, Germany, Ethiopia, Thailand and Yemen. The last reported sighting of
them was at a Malaysian hospital in October 2009, where Eitan possibly
was ill."We are working directly with the Malaysian government," said Philip Klein, head
of the Texas-based firm Klein Investigations and Consulting, which was
hired by Eitan's mother and relatives in January 2009 to lead the civil
investigation of the case."We are also working with the Department of State.
We are working direct leads at this time to bring him into custody."
Authorities said Michael Blasingame, 28, was supposed to turn Eitan
over to the boy's mother, Diana, at her Texas home in March 2008,
per a custody agreement between the two.But
the pair never showed up, and federal and civil investigators have
spent the past year and a half following leads around the world as to
their whereabouts.Michael
Blasingame is facing federal charges of international parental
kidnapping, unlawful flight to avoid prosecution and a Texas charge of
interference with child custody.Corey Britt, spokesman for the U.S. Marshals office in Lafayette,
said all indications are that Blasingame is still in Malaysia.However,
he said federal authorities have not yet been able to find an address
or narrow down a possible location in the country.Britt
said authorities were disappointed that extensive local news coverage
earlier this summer did not result in any new leads, but he remains
optimistic that the case will eventually be solved."The
case is still open, and we're still very interested in any information
that people have," Britt said. "It's just taking longer than we ever thought it would."
