The state is demanding answers from the Department of Children and
Families after a mother, who is known to the agency, was charged with
stabbing her disabled son.Robin Foster was arrested Tuesday on
charges she stabbed her 16-year-old son more than 30 times.DCF
officials said Foster had been raising the severely-disabled boy on her
own. After the attack, police said Foster said another juvenile was
responsible. They said Foster later retracted her story and confessed to
the stabbing.During Foster’s court arraignment, it was mentioned
that Foster herself has disabilities and DCF has been involved with the
family.In court, Foster had a difficult time understanding what
was being said, and her public defender said she has a genetic hearing
disorder. The judge also ordered a mental health evaluation.Foster had been living
at the Mansfield apartment where the stabbing took place with her son,
who is autistic and disabled.Tuesday morning, Foster said she found her son in his bedroom with stab wounds.
Later in the day, after police said officers found bloodied clothes in a
garbage bag, they claim Foster confessed.A friend of the family’s said
that DCF has been to the home numerous times.The
state’s child advocate has launched an investigation to determine if
Foster was receiving enough services to help her care for her disabled
child.Officials with DCF said they could not comment on an open
case, but said they are reviewing the matter to determine if there are
any practice concerns that need to be addressed.Foster’s son remains hospitalized.
