Mexico could adopt Amber Alert
The Amber Alert system used to find abducted children in the U.S. may soon be extended into Mexico. On Wednesday, more than 150 representatives from law enforcement agencies from New Mexico, the federal government, and Mexico met in Albuquerque to talk about an Amber Alert expansion. They hope such an expansion will add even more eyes and ears to help find kids who may be taken across the border. “In the United States, when the Department of Justice launched the Amber Alert program, within 18 months, all 50 states had Amber plans. We hope Mexico can move as quickly as the U.S. did,” said Lt. Eric Garcia with NM State Police. Organizers of Wednesday’s meeting pointed to New Mexico as a possible model to use if and when an Amber Alert program is set up south of the border.
