9-Year-Old Shot, Killed In Domestic Dispute

DAVIE, Fla. -- A 9-year-old girl inside a minivan was shot in the head and killed in what detectives say was the violent culmination of a domestic dispute.Police in Davie say the suspect opened fire on two women and four children in the vehicle on Sunday.Officers have identified the shooter as 41-year-old Jody Gordon. They say he was last seen in a green Honda Civic driven by an unidentified woman.According to police, Gordon is the former boyfriend of a woman in the car.The victim's name has not yet been released.

TAMPA, Fla. - A Broward man wanted for shooting a 9-year-old girl in the head turned himself in to Tampa authorities Monday at noon.
Young Mayia Nelson was among six passengers in a beige minivan when it was sprayed by gunfire in a South Florida apartment complex parking lot Sunday morning.
The girl was rushed to Joe Dimaggio’s Children’s Hospital, and she was later pronounced dead at Memorial East Hospital.
Investigators believe that the suspect, 41-year-old Jody Gordon, was upset with his ex-girl friend, the young girl’s mother, after getting kicked out of an apartment they shared.
The girl’s mother, 32-year-old Shawana Newson, drove away from the complex to a Publix supermarket, where she ran in for help.
Detectives later towed the vehicle and began a massive search for the suspected shooter.
At noon on Monday, Jody Gordon, walked into the Tampa Police Headquarters and told an officer he wanted to turn himself in, spokeswoman Andrea Davis said. The officer found the warrant for Gordon out of Broward County.
Davie officers arrived in Tampa late Monday afternoon and he was taken into custody. He is expected to be extradited back to Broward County.
