A 9-year-old child died Saturday at an Appleton hospital despite resuscitation efforts by Appleton police and medical personnel.
Police Lt. Kelly Gady said officers and emergency medical responders responded to the 200 block of E. Calumet Street at 3:30 p.m. for the report of a child found unresponsive.
“Resuscitation efforts (were) initiated on scene and continued in route, as well as at St. Elizabeth Hospital,” Gady said. The child was later pronounced dead at St. Elizabeth.
Appleton police and the Outagamie County coroner’s officer were conducting a joint investigation into the death, Gady said.

Re: CHRISTAL M PIPES - 9 yo - Appleton WI
An autopsy was completed Monday on a 9-year-old child who died over the weekend.
Appleton Police and the Outagamie County Coroners office, however, are not releasing the cause of death of Christale M. Pipes, who was found unresponsive at her home in the 200 block of E. Calumet St. at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
Lt. Pat Matuszewski said detectives assigned to the case have “some loose ends to tie up” before information on the cause of death is made public. Coroner Ruth Wulgaert said the death investigation is “inconclusive” and ongoing with the police.
