A three-year-old baby is in critical condition at Sacred Heart Medical Center after the boy’s babysitter admitted to shoving the child to the ground.
On Monday Post Falls police officers responded to a residence where the three-year-old child was found to be breathing but unresponsive. At the time the babysitter told officers she was attempting to change the baby’s urine-soaked clothes when the child went limp and became unresponsive.When the child was taken to Kootenai Medical Center authorities initially thought the boy might have ingested something that caused him to become unresponsive. A CT scan confirmed, however, that the child had a bleeding skull fracture which was suspicious in nature.The child was flown to Sacred Heart Medical Center where he immediately underwent emergency surgery.During their investigation detectives talked to the 25-year-old babysitter who admitted she became frustrated and angry with the child after he urinated himself. She shoved the child to the ground, which caused the injuries to the boy’s head.The child is in critical condition at Sacred Heart. As of Wednesday afternoon no charges have been filed against the babysitter. The case remains under investigation.

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE: On Monday, October 4th, 2010 at approximately 4:30 P.M. Post Falls Officers responded to the 500 block of North Elm Road for a report of a 3 year-old male child who was breathing but unresponsive. When officers arrived on scene, they were told by the babysitter that she was attempting to remove urine soaked clothes from the 3 year-old when he became "limp" and unresponsive.

Medical personnel arrived on scene and transported the child to Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d' Alene. Initially, it was believed that the child might have ingested something that caused him to slip into his unresponsive state. Officers were later advised that a C.T. scan revealed that the child had a bleeding skull fracture.

Medical personnel felt that the injury was suspicious in nature. The child was flown to Sacred Heart Medical Center, in Spokane where the child immediately underwent emergency surgery for his injuries.
Detectives responded and as a result of the investigation, the 25 year-old babysitter admitted to becoming frustrated and angry with the child after he had urinated himself.

The babysitter advised that she shoved the child to the ground resulting in the injuries to his head. Charges are pending in this case. The child is currently in critical condition and the case is still actively under investigation by the Post Falls Police Department.

POST FALLS, ID. -- Post Falls Police announced Friday the arrest of a 25-year-old babysitter who admitted to abusing a child because he wet his pants.

Amanda Leann Skogen, 25, was arrested without incident Friday and charged with First Degree Murder, according to police. She was booked into the Kootenai County Jail.

The 3-year-old boy, Cohen Johnson, died at 1 p.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Medical Center.

Skogen initially told investigators she she was removing Cohen's urine soaked clothes when he went "limp" and unresponsive on Monday. She later admitted she shoved Cohen, causing him to hit his head, because she was frustrated.

SPOKANE, Wash. - The family of Cohen Johnson, the 3-year-old who died last week as a result of being shoved to the ground by his babysitter, released a statement through the City of Spokane Tuesday afternoon.+

FAMILY STATEMENT: "As the parents and family of Cohen Johnson, we thank all of our friends and family as well as the members of our community who continue to pray and support us through this most difficult time. We also thank the Sacred Heart Medical Center staff, especially Cohen's doctors and nurses, for their guidance, care, and empathy. We thank them not just on Cohen's behalf, but also for us and all our close family and friends. We continue to ask for privacy and discretion regarding this matter. We will remember Cohen not for the way he left us, but for the brilliant life he gave us. We sincerely hope others might do the same."
