SYMONE ANNAFI - Infant (2009) - Norfolk VA

A judge convicted a 37-year-old man on Thursday of second degree murder for the death of his infant granddaughter.

Naeem Annafi was found guilty of murder and felony child neglect in October 2009 death of Symone Annafi.

Judge Norman A. Thomas ruled that Annafi had acted in malice when he violently shook his granddaughter, whom he regularly cared for. “We’re clearly dealing with intentional conduct,” Thomas said in court. “Symone Annafi was subjected to tremendous physical force.”

Annafi called emergency personnel the night of Oct. 5 and told them his granddaughter had fallen down a flight of stairs, according to testimony. Paramedics arrived at the 1000 block of Barney St. and found the girl with a weak pulse and barely breathing.

She died the next day at the hospital.

Days later, Annafi told police the girl was misbehaving, and he shook her to get her to top, according to court records.

Annafi is scheduled to be sentenced in March.
