"John Doe" - 15 yo - Hayward (E of San Francisco) CA
Alameda County sheriff's deputies are investigating the death of 15-year-old boy after his body was found in a ravine off of Beckham Lane behind Hayward High School. Deputies had already taken his twin brother into custody after they found he had broken into a home Tuesday. That was also when they determined his twin was missing. Deputies are trying to determine whether the twin killed his brother or if it was part of a suicide pact.

Alameda County sheriff's deputies are investigating the circumstances that led to the discovery of a body early Wednesday morning in a ravine behind a home.It may be the twin brother of a 15-year-old arrested at the same home early Tuesday afternoon, said J.D. Nelson, a sergeant with the Sheriff's Office.Nelson said events started to unfold around noon Tuesday when sheriff deputies were called to a home on Beckham Way in northern unincorporated Hayward to investigate an apparent burglary. When officers arrived at the home, they found a teen who asked the deputies to shoot him, Nelson said. The teen had turned on the natural gas in the home, Nelson added. The teen then picked up knives and started to inflict wounds on himself, Nelson said. Officers had to subdue him with a Taser. The teen did not live at the house, said Nelson, adding it seems to have been picked randomly. After interviewing the teen and family members, authorities became concerned because the suspect's twin brother was missing. Both twins lived in Hayward and attended Hayward High School.Officers spent a majority of Tuesday searching the Hayward Plunge and Memorial Park, and the home where the first brother was found.Deputies discovered a body in a ravine behind that home at daybreak Wednesday.Nelson said it seems the body is that of the missing twin brother, but said he could not confirm that until an autopsy is conducted today.Officers are investigating the case, and Nelson said officers could not rule out suicide or homicide at this point.

A tragic story unfolded in Hayward Wednesday afternoon where police were investigating whether a 15-year-old boy murdered his twin brother or if the two teens had entered a failed suicide pact.According to the department, the tragedy began to unfold prior to 8:45 a.m. Tuesday morning after a neighbor called 911 to say they saw a teen breaking into a neighborhood home.Arriving officers confronted the 15-year-old, who had turned on gas jets inside the home. The teen demanded to be shot, but officers instead Tasered him before he was taken into custody.During the investigation deputies learned the teen suspect’s twin brother was missing. On Wednesday morning, authorities found a body down in a heavily-wooded ravine which backs up to Hayward high school.Wednesday afternoon NewsChopper 2 shot footage of crews being lowered into the ravine to recover the body. The body was taken to the coroner to confirm it was the suspect's twin brother. Investigators were looking at two possibilities when it comes to the boy's death. Both were disturbing. “At this point we're trying to determine if this was a suicide by the brother and attempted suicide by the other brother or if the brother arrested murdered the sibling,” said Alameda County Sheriff's Department Sgt. J.D. Nelson. The cul de sac where the targeted home was located remained cordoned off with crime scene tape Wednesday while deputies investigated. The boys were sophomores at Hayward High School. Additional counselors were brought in Wednesday to talk with staff and students. “A lot of people are taking it hard,” said Hayward High senior. Achael Romey. “I feel bad for the family as well.”“They didn't have any problems with anybody,” said sophomore Shiva Chetty. “Just nice kids. Friends with everybody. Nobody expected what happened to happen.”The school superintendent said neither boy had any reported problems with bullying. Counselors were scheduled to return to the campus Thursday. The surviving brother was arrested for burglarizing the home. He remained at Eden Hospital recovering from self-inflicted stab wounds.

Detectives are investigating whether a 15-year-old Hayward boy whose body was found in a ravine had committed suicide or was killed, possibly by his identical twin who stabbed himself when confronted by deputies during a standoff, authorities said Thursday. An autopsy was planned today for the Hayward High School sophomore, a day after a search-and-rescue crew found his body in a ravine, Alameda County sheriff's Sgt. J.D. Nelson said. Nelson said events started to unfold around noon Tuesday, when sheriff deputies were called to a home on Beckham Way, in northern unincorporated Hayward, to investigate an apparent burglary. When officers arrived at the home, they found a teen who asked the deputies to shoot him, Nelson said. The teen had turned on the natural gas in the home, Nelson added. The teen then picked up knives and started to inflict wounds on himself, Nelson said. Officers had to subdue him with a stun gun. He was taken to a hospital for surgery and is expected to survive, Nelson said. The teen did not live at the house, said Nelson, adding it seems to have been picked randomly. After interviewing the teen and family members, authorities became concerned because the suspect's twin brother was missing..Officers searched the Hayward Plunge and Memorial Park, as well as the home where the first brother was found. They discovered the body in a ravine behind that home at daybreak Wednesday. The body had knife wounds and did not appear to have been in the ravine for long when it was found, Nelson said. The teen's name was being withheld pending the results of the autopsy, he said. "We still have to figure out how he died, so until we get that, we can't work forward," Nelson said. "If it was a suicide pact, then by definition the other would be dead; the other isn't dead," he added. "Then what we're left with is a murder and attempted suicide or a suicide and attempted suicide." The injured brother, whose name also was not released, was being arrested on suspicion of burglary. Investigators were waiting for him to recover so they can question him, Nelson said. The twins' parents were cooperating with investigators.
