A teen who authorities say ran away from his Concordia area home with weapons could be headed for Topeka.
The Concordia Blade Empire newspaper reports
Corey Mason took off early Monday. They report that his father told the
sheriff an AK-47, several handguns and more than a thousand rounds of
ammunition are missing.

The newspaper also reports
Mason made threats against school administrators last November and
against his foster siblings before leaving. The Concordia school
superintendent told the paper concerns over Mason's whereabouts
contributed to their decision to cancel classes Tuesday, though the cold
was the bigger factor.
Cloud County authorities told the newspaper that
Mason's biological mother lives in Topeka and cell phone records
indicate he may be in the Topeka or Hiawatha areas.

Cloud County Undersheriff Mason Johnson said late Tuesday that law enforcement officials believe Corey Mason is headed toward his biological family's home in the Topeka area. He said Mason should be considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached.
He said Mason is known to have made statements that he would not be caught, even if that meant he had to kill a police officer. He is thought to have 1,000 rounds of ammunition for the rifle in his possession, as well.
Johnson encouraged anyone who has contact with Mason to call 911.
Mason was described as white, 5 feet 3 inches tall, between 130 and 140 pounds, with brown eyes and brown hair.
"We currently believe he is no longer in our county," Johnson said.
Johnson said Mason is likely headed to the Topeka or Kansas City areas, and Cloud County authorities have been in direct contact with law enforcement agencies in northeast Kansas to assist in the ongoing search.

Authorities are searching for a 16-year-old boy who allegedly stole three handguns
and a rifle from his adoptive family's Cloud County home before running
away early Monday, reports from WIBW and the Salina Journal said.

According to the Salina Journal and the Blade-Empire,
Mason left his adoptive family's home at 5 a.m. Monday and was on foot
for a short distance. He said Mason's footprints end at K-81, a nearby
highway, where authorities believe he was picked up by someone in a
vehicle.

Cloud County deputies conducted an area search
assisted by multiple agencies, he said. A house-by-house search was
conducted in the area of the adoptive family's home, and authorities
contacted the boy's local friends, he said.

Empire reports Mason made threats against school administrators last
November. That incident, he said, was handled by the Concordia Police
Department. No new threats were made toward school officials, but
rather, his foster siblings.

"On Jan. 7, he discussed with his
foster siblings that he was going to run away," Johnson said. "He
threatened then that if they told what he was planning, he would kill
them."
While the threats made this week were not toward school
administrators, Johnson said given his previous behavior, every
precaution was taken.

"With his previous threats, his running away, and his choice of what he took with him, we were concerned," he said.

The Concordia school superintendent told the paper concerns over
Mason's whereabouts contributed to their decision to cancel classes
Tuesday, though the cold was the bigger factor.

Cloud County Sheriff Brian Marks told the Blade-Empire that law enforcement officials
in Topeka, Hiawatha, and Brown County have been alerted and are on the
lookout for him.

"We're pretty confident that he's not in this
area," Marks said. "We're at the point where we feel more confident that
he's there. We'll locate him one way or another.

The Concordia area runaway teen who authorities were concerned might be armed is in custody in Holton Thursday night.


Jackson County Sheriff Charles Cornell says Corey
Mason, 16, contacted their office around 2:30 Thursday afternoon and
requested deputies meet him at a Hoyt business, where he turned himself
in without incident.


Mason ran away Monday and his father told authorities weapons and ammunition were missing from the home.


Authorities say Mason had previously threatened Concordia school officials and his foster siblings.
