Alpharetta Father, Aunt Denied Bond In Murder Case

ALPHARETTA, Ga. --A Fulton County Judge has denied bond to an Alpharetta father and aunt who have been charged with the murder of 4-year-old Shakira Decelien. Thirty-four year-old Wilguens Decelien and 40-year-old Mara Decelien, the toddler's father and aunt, have been charged with murder and child cruelty.
The toddler's family is mourning her death.
"It’s terrible. We are hurting," said Pierre Remy, the victim's uncle. "She was a sweetheart. She was very joyous. She showed love to everybody, and she was very well spoken."
Alpharetta police said the victim died from extreme alcohol poisoning. On Friday afternoon, investigators arrested both suspects.
Remy said the father loved his daughter and called the incident an accident.
"It's terrible, man, because she is young and she didn’t know the effects of certain things. I don’t know if she got her hands somehow on something and drank it, it's just tragic," Remy said.
Police were called to Planters Ridge Condominiums at midnight Thursday to provide medical assistance to an unresponsive child.

The girl was taken North Fulton Hospital then airlifted to Scottish Rite Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Court records: Girl’s blood alcohol level was .272
Court records state that a 4-year-old girl who died of alcohol poisoning had a blood alcohol level of .272.

That is more than three times the legal limit for an adult driver, WSB-TV reports.

A police report states that officers were told the child, Shakira Decelien, “may” have drunk some rum and that she wouldn’t wake up.

Police say they also found several liquor bottles inside the home.

Alpharetta police spokesman George Gordon says the girl died as a result of “extreme alcohol toxicity.” Police had been called to the Alpharetta condo on Friday in response to a medical emergency.

Police say two of the girl’s relatives — Wilguens Decelien and Mara C. Decelien —have been charged with felony murder and second-degree cruelty to children.
