A North St. Louis County man is behind bars charged with the murder of a 2 year old. Authorities charged Donye Calvin, 22, of the 2600 block of Tyrell in St. Louis, with one count of Second Degree Murder.
Police say D'mon Staples, 2 years old, was unconscious when police arrived around 3:40 p.m. Friday. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. Calvin, the mother's boyfriend was babysitting Staples at the time of his death.
He is being held on $500,000 cash only bond.

A 2-year-old boy was killed by his mother's boyfriend, who admitted punching and hitting the boy because he was misbehaving, court records allege.
Donye Calvin, 22, has been charged with second-degree murder in the death Friday of the little boy, D'mond Staples.
Police say they got a call for a sick child at 3:40 p.m. Friday in the 2600 block of Tyrell Drive in north St. Louis County. Police found D'mond unconscious. Calvin had been babysitting the boy when police arrived, police say.
The boy was taken to Christian Hospital Northeast, where he died at 4:18 p.m. Friday, said St. Louis County Police Officer Rick Eckhard.
On Saturday, prosecutors filed the murder charge against Calvin. He was held in lieu of $500,000 bail.
According to a probable cause statement by police, Calvin told detectives that the boy had been misbehaving. He said he struck the boy in the stomach several times and punched him in the head, the court records allege.
The mother of D'mond was identified by relatives as Jessica Staples. She could not be reached for comment.
A great-uncle of D'mond, Phillip Staples, said he never met Calvin and rarely saw the boy.
When he heard about the allegations, Phillip Staples said: "Why would you do a kid like that, when all you had to do was leave?"
