Missing teen - Michael Pineau, 18 ~ Ottawa ON



The Ottawa Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a missing 18-year-old male, Michael PINEAU. He was last seen walking southbound on Chesterton Drive, at approximately 11:00 PM on Tuesday, March 15th, 2011.

He is described as being a white male, 6’-1”, 190 lbs., medium build, with short brown hair and having a mole on his left cheek, wearing a grey and black winter jacket, blue jeans and hiking boots.

Pineau said his son was at his own house party before he became "very agitated" and left.

"He was running away from the house. He was upset about something, but I'd rather not say what that was," Pineau said Monday. "There's been no sign of him."

Sgt. Mike Lamothe of the Ottawa Police Service, said police are currently waiting for Michael's bank records to be released.

"We're hoping to get a tip from the poster campaign or a lead from a document we're having traced."

Pineau has been spending a lot of time in Ottawa searching for his son.

Miriam Pineau, Michael's sister, made a public plea for information.

"Michael's disappearance has shaken our family, and we are asking for your help to find him," said the 21-year-old.

"Michael has never disappeared like this. If you see him or know where he is, please do the right thing and let the authorities know."

A Facebook page has been created, "Thoughts and prayers for Michael Pineau and his family." Several posts of supports and prayers have been posted to the page.

Few leads in missing man case
Family cleans out son’s room in Ottawa

Michael Pineau's parents face the painful task of cleaning out the apartment he shared with a few roommates in Ottawa.

His father, John, said his son's roommates are almost done university and heading their own separate ways after graduation.

Pineau, 20, originally of Mattawa, has been missing since March 15. There was a party at his house and he became agitated and left. He was last seen walking south on Chesterton Drive between Meadowlands and Viewmount drives in Ottawa at 11 p.m.

The communications division of the Ottawa Police Service said there are no new leads or developments in the Pineau case.

"It's pretty devastating. It's unbelievably tough," John Pineau said Wednesday. "We've been in constant contact with police, but there's just no leads. There's nothing.

"We've thought of the worst case scenarios and those thoughts are horribly difficult, but we're hanging on hope."

Michael Pineau moved to Ottawa in September 2009 for university.

Since he disappeared, family members have been dividing their time between their home in Mattawa and Ottawa.

"We've done everything we can. We've hired a helicopter for an aerial search, conducted a . . . ground search and managed to keep this a high-profile case," Pineau said. "We've searched his running route in Ottawa, which is a 10-kilometre distance, and throughout his neighbourhood."

Family and friends have started a poster campaign.

Family awaits autopsy after body is pulled from river

The Pineau family is awaiting autopsy results to determine if a body found in Ottawa's Rideau River Thursday is that of their 19-year-old son.

"This is the worst nightmare of any parent," said Liz Pineau, the mother of Mattawa man Michael Pineau, who has been missing since mid-March.

"No matter what the outcome it's not bringing him back."

A man canoeing near Carelton University made the grisly discovery Thursday afternoon.

The body was recovered at about 7 p.m. by Ottawa police divers.

Police said the body was "fairly decomposed."

"Identification has yet to be made," said Carole Lavigne, manager of Ottawa police media relations. "An update will be released as soon as possible."



Pineau said the family was aware that police pulled a body from the river.

"We've been told an autopsy will not be done until (today). At this time police are not releasing anything," she said. "If positive identification can't be made police will use dental records and that could take until Monday."

Pineau said a shoe was found near the water where the body was discovered and she doesn't believe it belongs to her son.

Michael Pineau left his Ottawa home March 15 and hasn't been seen since. He has been living in Ottawa since September 2009 where he had attended Carelton University.

His parents still live in Mattawa.
