Greensboro, NC --When a loved one is missing, the fear of what could
happen can be overwhelming. Just ask a Greensboro couple whose son left
home last Wednesday and hasn't been seen since.
The Ferrells can't explain what happened to their son, Brooks. Brooks
is a senior at Page High School. He has a great group of friends and
he's graduating in a month.
"I'm fearful that he can't get home for some reason," said Pam
Ferrell, Brooks' mother. "I don't know if that's because he's been
physically injured or because he's for some reason mentally unable to
get home. I don't know. I just know that he would be here."
Brooks Ferrell left on his own Wednesday evening around 9:15 p.m.
After an argument with his mom over school work, he jumped in his white
Mitsubishi Lancer and took off. His dad said he had about 20 bucks and a
tank of gas.
"We just haven't turned up any leads," said David Ferrell. "There's
no calls made and the cell phone has been off or dead since around
midnight on Thursday."
They said Brooks had been acting differently since returning from a beach trip with his friends days before.
"He was telling me he was having trouble focusing and concentrating,"
said David. "And he was worried that he didn't have enough sleep."
David said they thought someone would have spotted his car by now.
Since no one has, they don't know what to think. David said they fear
something worse has happened to Brooks, considering he didn't make any
phone calls after leaving on Wednesday night.
"It's just inexplicable," he said.
"Brooks is such a typical, wonderful kid," said Pam. "I would never
have thought that he would leave and not come back, ever. I still can't
believe it's real. We're still very, very hopeful. But, as the days go
by, more scared than ever."
David said they've expanded their search to Wrightsville Beach
because that's where Brooks was last weekend. They're also putting up
missing person posters in Boone because Brooks is going to Appalachian
State in the fall.
Police are asking you to keep an eye out for Brooks or his car. It's a white, Mitsubishi Lancer. The tag number is: TTY-2856.
Anyone with information about Ferrell's whereabouts is asked to call Crimestoppers at 336-373-1000.

What can you do if your child is missing?
According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, 2,000 kids go missing every day.
First, the center says check every inch of your house, including cars and anywhere else a child might hide.
If you can't find the child, call local law enforcement, immediately.
If your child disappears in a store, notify the store manager or security, then immediately call police.
What you need is to have is your child's name, date of birth, height
weight and any other identifiers, like glasses or what they were last
wearing.
The next step is to ask police enter your child's information into
the National Crime Information Center Missing Person File. (This is the
file administered by the FBI.)

BROOKS FERRELL - 18 yo - Greensboro NC 133385
Greensboro, NC -- Greensboro police have postively identified the body found in a car in a Country Park lake as Brooks Ferrell.
The Page High School student had been missing since last Wednesday.
The family's pastor told WFMY News 2 on Monday night that police had
informed the parents that the victim in the lake was Brooks.
Police said that an autopsy determined the cause of death to be drowning. They do not suspect foul play.
Investigators are now trying to determine how Brooks car got into the
lake. They are looking at the parks gates and the locks on the gates.
Police were tipped off about the car in the lake around 3:15 p.m.
Monday when a park worker noticed something suspicious. Dive team
members helped police remove the white car and covered it with a blue
tarp.

Police were looking for Brooks' white Mitsubishi Lancer since he first went missing last week.
Detectives haven't said when they think the car went into the lake or
how it got their without being noticed. Vehicles aren't allowed in
the park on weekends, holidays or after 4:15 p.m. during the week.
Greenboro police Lt. Dennis Willoughby did say they are looking into
whether a gate at Orman Road was left open or if it was missing a lock.
Brooks' parents last saw their son when he left Wednesday night after
an argument about school work. His dad, David, said Brooks had $20 and a
tank of gas when he left. There wasn't any activity to or from Brooks'
cell phone since around midnight Thursday.
During a Sunday interview with WFMY News 2's Liz Palka, his parents
said Brooks' told them he was having trouble focusing and concentrating
since returning from a beach trip with his friends days before. Brooks'
told them he was worried he didn't have enough sleep.
Brooks was graduating from Page High School in about a month and heading to Appalachian State in the fall.http://www.digtriad.com/news/article/173959/1/Police-No-Foul-Play-Suspected-In-Brooks-Ferrells-Death
