Fourteen-year-old Sophie Warner left her Raritan Township home last
night night and was last seen walking alongside Route 31 near Stanton.
If anyone has seen the petite brunette, wearing jeans and a red T-shirt,
police are asking for an immediate call to 9-1-1 or 908-782-8889.

Detective Mark Taggert said that she left on her own at 8 p.m. and
was questioned by a concerned motorist at 10 p.m., who stopped because
he thought she looked out of place. Sophie is 5-foot-1, 120 pounds and
has hazel eyes and a fair complexion.

Taggert said that the teen told the motorist that she is from Clinton
and that she was fine, but was appeared scared by his interest. He
called police, but they couldn’t find her.

Sophie attends school in Union Township and police are questioning
friends. Taggert said that it wasn’t clear what caused her to run away.
They don’t think she was carrying anything and she didn’t have a cell
phone.

He said police are “concerned when a girl is walking around late at
night like that and we’re not able to locate her.” The temperature
dropped since she left home and it started raining. A missing-child
alert went out to registered homes this morning and residents were asked
to search barns or other outbuildings for the girl.
