Local relatives react to Casey Anthony case
By Sally Phillips, Reporter

CANFIELD, Ohio - Relatives are questioning serious allegations made against a former Trumbull County Sheriff's Deputy.

The sensational claims come in one of the most notorious murder cases in recent history.

In opening remarks at her trial, the defense for murder suspect Casey Anthony dropped a bombshell. Defense Attorney Jose Baez claims Casey's two-year-old daughter Caylee drowned in a pool and that after years of being molested by her father George, Casey had been convinced by him to cover up the child's death.

They're claims that George Anthony denied on the stand.

Local relatives believe the allegations are completely false.

George's sister and brother-in-law, Canfield residents Kathy and Chuck Eddy, talked to him by phone after he testified at his daughter's trial.

"I thought he sounded at peace and really good after a very horrendous day," remembers Chuck.

Anthony's sister Kathy says the claims against him are preposterous.

"If my brother had been doing those things to my niece, I just absolutely, I would stake my children's life on that there's nothing that has happened," said Kathy.

They say Caylee's death and the ensuing trial have been tough on the family, especially on George, who had trouble finding a new job.

"He's gone from a high stature, wearing a badge, being a detective in Trumbull County to watching his daughter in jail for three years, lost the love of his life, Caylee," said Chuck.

Kathy says the new allegations against George have been difficult on the family.

"It's almost like it's starting to draw lines where you don't want them to be," she said. "I want my niece to know that I love her, I just wish she would speak the truth."

While they're not sure what happened to little Caylee, and they know they could be subpoenaed, the Eddys say the family is relying heavily on faith. They hope the truth will come out.

"We are a family of faith and I just ask everyone to just not pass judgement and, if you can, pray for my family," said Kathy.
