RI man pleads guilty to killing baby daughter

NEWPORT, R.I.—A Rhode Island man has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in connection to the 2009 death of his 6-week-old daughter.
WPRI-TV reports Rachin McCoy pleaded guilty on Thursday in Newport Superior Court. He could face life in prison when he is sentenced in September.
Prosecutors say McCoy's daughter, Niaomi, died several days after suffering a head injury on Jan. 27, 2009. An autopsy also found she suffered broken ribs, skull fractures and detached retinas.
McCoy initially told police he was playfully tossing the child into the air and then catching her, when he accidentally missed her and she fell to the floor. He also said he threw the infant into the crib, and that she hit her head on the side.
