-- Police issued an Amber Alert on Monday for a 16-year-old boy who was
kidnapped with a sawed-off shotgun during a robbery.
An unknown
man whisked Hasaan Ford away around 4 p.m after robbing Al's Barber Shop
on West 18th Street, according to Antioch police.
Hasaan was
working at the shop when a man robbed the store at gunpoint, taking the
owner's wallet and keys and then grabbing Ford. The robber ordered Ford
into the owner's two-door GMC Yukon and then told him to drive.
Authorities
are asking the public for their help in finding Hasaan, who is black, 5
feet 4 inches tall and 110 pounds. He was last seen wearing black
jeans, a red coat and a red Cincinnati Reds baseball cap.
Police
described the suspect, who is considered armed and dangerous, as a 25
year-old black man who is 5-foot-7, 180 pounds and wearing oversized
black jeans, a jean jacket and a blue knit cap with a white stripe.
The
stolen SUV has shiny rims, a "Harley Davidson" sticker on the back
window, "GT" written in orange on the side, and a California license
plate number of 4WAY944.

Contra Costa County barber shop is now safe. Authorities say
Hasaan Ford was working at Al's Barber Shop in Antioch on Monday
afternoon when a robber stole the manager's wallet, keys and SUV, then
ordered the boy into the vehicle and told him to drive away.
Antioch
police had issued an Amber alert asking motorists in seven Northern
California counties to be on the lookout for the teen.

Antioch teen kidnap 'victim' is now holdup suspect

A 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of robbing the Antioch
barbershop where he worked, a day after his supposed abduction triggered
a statewide Amber Alert, police said.

Rather than being a kidnapping victim, the boy had hatched a plan
with a second suspect, Eric Lerone Walker, 23, to rob Al's Barber Shop
on Monday at 11 W. 18th St. in Antioch, police said. The teenager did
odd jobs there.

The incident began about 3:15 p.m. Monday when a robber with a
sawed-off shotgun entered the barbershop, according to manager Al
Holmes, who was alone in the shop at the time.

The robber, whom police now believe was Walker, ordered Holmes to
the floor and took his $150 watch, $200 worth of jewelry, shop keys and
the keys to his 1996 GMC Yukon, authorities said.

But as the robber left, he ran into the 16-year-old shop employee who was
returning from an errand, police had been told.

The robber ordered him at gunpoint to drive the Yukon, police and
Holmes said. The circumstances, as initially reported, prompted police
to issue an Amber Alert for the boy and the SUV. The statewide alert was
canceled early Tuesday.

Holmes said in an interview that the teenager and his mother came to
his shop Tuesday afternoon and spoke briefly to him. During a brief
conversation, the boy denied any involvement in the robbery, Holmes
said.

Shortly thereafter, police arrived and took him away for questioning,
Holmes said. The teen admitted to police that he had faked his
kidnapping to cover up his involvement in the robbery, said police Capt.
Leonard Orman.

The boy is being held at Contra Costa County Juvenile Hall in
Martinez. The Chronicle is no longer publishing his name because he is
an underage criminal suspect.

Walker was arrested on suspicion of robbery, carjacking, conspiracy
and possession of a dangerous weapon. He was taken into custody Tuesday
at an apartment on the 3100 block of Lone Tree Way in Antioch.

A sawed-off shotgun believed to have been used in the holdup was
found in a van on the premises, Orman said. Also recovered was property
stolen from the robbery, he said.

Walker is being held at the County Jail in Martinez in lieu of $250,000 bail.
