3-year-old girl who Dallas police say was victim of abuse dies; mother's boyfriend remains jailed

When you write about crime on a daily basis, some of the subject matter can become routine.
But the stories of brutal violence committed against innocent children will never fall into that category.
Sadly, 3-year-old Telia Tillett died late last Friday night from massive head injuries police say she suffered while in the care of her mother's live-in boyfriend, Gregory Devon Marsh.



According to police documents, Telia's mother left her healthy daughter with Marsh, a felon, at their east Oak Cliff home last Thursday about 9 a.m.
She returned about noon to find her daughter apparently asleep, with the covers pulled up to her neck, police documents said.
The mother noticed that Telia appeared to be taking "deep breaths from time to time that sounded unusual," the documents said.
At 4:30 p.m., Telia still appeared to be sleeping and the mother told Marsh to wake her up, the documents said. When Marsh picked Telia up, her mother saw her head fall back and saw other signs of apparent injuries.
Telia's mother called for police and gave her daughter a bath, police said.
Her injuries included serious head trauma and bruises and contusions on other parts of her body, the documents said.
Telia died at Children's Medical Center at Dallas at 10:20 p.m. Friday. Her death was ruled a homicide.
Marsh is in the Dallas County Jail on a charge of injury to a child and parole violations. His bail was set at $50,000.
