August 8, 2011 - RCMP in Punnichy are currently investigating a complaint of a missing youth from the Muskowekwan First Nation, which was reported to RCMP yesterday afternoon. RCMP have spoken to several witnesses in relation to this disappearance and have determined that the 15 year old girl was part of a group of 8 others that had decided to run away from a group home on Saturday afternoon. After the 9 youths had run away, RCMP have learned that the missing girl was involved in an altercation with several members of this group. The missing youth, following the altercation, left the group that she was with and hasn't been seen from since. The eight other youth have been returned and are all accounted for.

Weather was clear and sunny when she was last seen, however there was significant rain, hail and colder weather during the evening hours.

The search efforts thus far have involved the Yorkton Police Dog Services as well as detachment members. The RCMP Search and Rescue team as well as RCMP air services are being called to assist. A photograph of the youth is attached to this media release. Further details on the missing youth:



Moondust Star WALTON, Aged 15 years old, from the Muskowekwan FN - Moondust was last seen on August 6th, 2011 at approximately 5:00 p.m. She was wearing a lime green t-shirt and grey sweat pants. She is approximately 5'6" tall and weighs 130 lbs.

Assisting in this investigation are members of the RCMP Punnichy Detachment as well as the Major Crime Unit from Regina and the GIS unit from Yorkton.

Moondust Star Walton: LOCATED


A teen whose disappearance was the subject of an air search by the RCMP on Monday has turned up safe and sound.

Officers found Moondust Star Walton, 15, at a residence in the Ituna area late Monday night after she was reported missing from a group home on the Muskowekwan First Nation on Saturday. Walton walked to an isolated farmhouse where she was able to find help, police said.

Her disappearance became known to police after she became separated from a group of youths who fled the group home on Saturday and after she was involved in a dispute with the other teens and went off on her own. The remaining youths had since returned to their home safely.

RCMP used a plane to search a rural area where she as last seen on Monday and also recruited the help of Yorkton police and the RCMP Search and Rescue Team.
