Vanessa Gonzales and her daughter Vanecia
Authorities in Larimer County are looking for a 2-year-old girl who might have been
abducted by her mother, who lost custody of the child in February.
Vanecia "Feather" Gonzales was staying with other family members in
Fort Collins until she was taken by her mother, Vanessa Gonzales, 28, of
Fort Collins on Friday. Gonzales also uses the last name Ferda.
The family has not heard from them since.
"It is believed that Vanessa may still be in the area, possibly
staying in a hotel or in an RV with an unknown male," the Larimer County
Sheriff's Office stated this afternoon.
The agency added, "Family members and authorities are worried for the child's safety.
Gonzales has been arrested a number of times, including a February
arrest on a pending theft charge, records show. In April she was
sentenced to two years of probation after she pleaded guilty to
third-degree assault after originally being charged with assault on a
peace officer in Larimer County.
In 2004, Gonzales was sentenced to 20 days in jail and two years
probation after pleading guilty to felony drug possession. Her original
charges included child abuse.
In 2002, she served 14 days in jail and received a 54-day suspended
sentence and 18 months on probation in a plea deal on charges that
originally included child abuse, underage drinking, driving under the
influence and driving the wrong way on a one-way street, court records show.
Records also show she was evicted from her Fort Collins apartment last October.
Anyone with information on the Gonzaleses' whereabouts can call the Larimer County Sheriff's Office at 970-416-1985.

Excuse me while I have a bit of a rant, but when I read about these sort of cases so often it just frustrates me to hell.
Never mind that this stupid 'mother' lost custody in February. That was 2 years too late. Why did the authorities, doctors, other family members, let a woman who is into drugs, stealing and child abuse, take that baby home from the hospital when she was born? Getting pregnant was part of this woman's dysfunctional life and irresponsibility, and she was not fit to be a parent in the first place.
A lot of damage can be done to a child's psych in the all important first 3 years while their brain is growing and forming.
WE NEED TO BREAK THE CYCLE OF DYSFUNCTION
Rant over. TIA

I hope she is not placed back with the family members who were trusted with Vanecia's care. They waited four days to report her missing! Obviously they worried more about getting the mother into trouble than they cared about Vanecia's safety.twinkletoes wrote:Kiwi, you said it all.kiwimom wrote:Excuse me while I have a bit of a rant, but when I read about these sort of cases so often it just frustrates me to hell.
