The girl was unresponsive when her father,
29-year-old Ivory Harmon, brought her to University of Illinois Masonic
Medical Center Aug. 4 about 4:45 p.m., police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak said.
Doctors determined the infant had been beaten, and
placed her on a ventilator in critical condition after they were
initially able to resuscitate her, according to a police News Affairs
release. She was pronounced dead Tuesday at 12:48 p.m. at University of Illinois Medical Center,
An investigation revealed Harmon allegedly inflicted the injuries upon the baby, the release said.
Harmon, of the 11300 block of South Forest Avenue, was charged Sunday
with one count of aggravated battery of a child.
As of Thursday at 2:30 p.m. that charge had not been upgraded, according to police News Affairs Officer Daniel O”Brien.
Harmon was booked into Cook County Jail Monday after a judge held him ordered
without bond, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s office website.
The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is investigating an
allegation of abuse against the father, spokesman Kendall Marlowe said.
DCFS has not had prior contact with him and there are no other children in the home.
Calumet Area detectives are investigating.
