ALISO VIEJO – Sheriff’s deputies are searching for a 15-month-old
girl who they believe was taken in the night by her biological father.

The girl was staying with her grandparents in Aliso Viejo, said Lt.
Steve Doan of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. They put her to
bed around 8:30 p.m. Thursday and found her missing at 7 a.m. Friday, he
said.

“We believe the child is in the possession of the biological father,
their son,” Doan said. “This is not a situation where a stranger entered
a house and abducted a child.”

Investigators do not yet know whether the grandparents had legal
custody of the girl. “We’re not even sure we have a crime,” Doan said.

Nonetheless, deputies were searching for the father, Brendan
MacCleverty, 23, as well as a black 1996 Toyota 4runner with Colorado
license plates, 485VFD. They identified the girl as Skye MacCleverty.

Doan said MacCleverty and the girl’s mother, Shawn Brady, 24, had
lived in Colorado at one time, but he did not know where they live now.
MacCleverty had also lived with his parents at one time; there were no
signs of forced entry at their house on Sherrelwood Court in Aliso
Viejo.

Deputies spoke with state officials about issuing an Amber Alert for
the missing girl. But the state only issues the alerts when abducted
children are considered at risk, and that’s not currently the case, Doan
said.

A 15-month-old girl reported missing from her grandparents' home
in Aliso Viejo was found Saturday morning in a Denver suburb, an
Orange County Sheriff's Department official said.
Lt. Steve Doan said Skye MacCleverty was found in a motel room in
Lakewood, Colo., with the child's mother, Shawn Brady, 24.
The child's grandparent's, who had temporary custody, reported
the girl missing at 7 a.m. Friday morning. Doan said it was
believed the child's father, Brendan MacCleverty, had abducted
the child from the grandparents' home on Sherrelwood Court in Aliso Viejo.
Doan said it was suspected the child's parents fled to Colorado
because they had previously lived there. Sheriff's deputies
triangulated Brady using the signal from her cell phone and
called police in Lakewood, who went to the motel and saw a woman
matching a Brady's description outside.
Brady identified herself and took the Lakewood police to the
child inside a motel room. The child was taken into protective custody.
Doan said no charges have been filed yet against Brady.
"We don't know if the mother was involved in the abduction of the baby, Doan said.
Doan said the authorities have not yet located Brendan
MacCleverty. MacCleverty does not appear to have a criminal
record in Orange County beyond a handful of traffic citations, court records show.
A hearing is scheduled for Tuesday in Jefferson County Court to
determine when the child can be returned to its grandparents.
