Richland County deputies are searching for a 10 year-old girl and and 8 year-old boy.
According to Richland County Deputy Curtis Wilson, deputies recieved a call at 2 p.m Saturday from a woman reporting her daughter and son were missing.



The mother stated that after she and her daughter, Sylvia Bacon Scott, had a verbal argument the girl left the 700 block of Maryland Street near Olympia with her 8 year-old brother.

Sylvia Scott was last seen wearing a purple and lavender night gown, a turquoise and brown jacket, white socks, and black and white Nikes.

Michael Scott Jr. was last seen wearing blue jean sweatpants and brown tennis shoes.

Anyone with information on the location of Sylvia and Michael Scott is asked to call the Richland County Sheriff's Department at 803-576-3000.

Richland County authorities have launched a search for two children missing from their home in Olympia since 7:30 this morning.
The children’s mother called the sheriff’s department around 2 p.m. to report her 10-year-old daughter, Sylvia Bacon Scott, and 8-year-old son, Michael Scott Jr., missing. She told authorities she and her daughter had argued and that the girl took her brother and left the house.

When last seen, the girl was wearing a purple and lavender nightgown, a turquoise and brown jacket, white socks and black and white tennis shoes.

The boy was wearing blue jeans, a sweat shirt with some sort of emblem and brown tennis shoes.

“We’re highly concerned about the weather,” sheriff’s department detective Don Robinson, who was leading the search, said as the sun set and the temperature began to fall toward a low of 34 degrees forecast for Columbia overnight.

Authorities are using specially trained dogs and a helicopter in their search.

They also are using a special communications system called the Reverse-911 alert system, which calls telephone numbers in the children’s neighborhood to enlist support in the search.

“We’ve had a good response,” Robinson said.

Several early evening tips have come in reporting children matching the Scott children’s descriptions walking along neighborhood roads. Around sunset, a caller reported seeing two children on Rosewood Drive, prompting a diversion of resources and a new strategy, Robinson said.

The children’s father, Mike Scott Sr., said his daughter left after her mother, Herlaschia Bacon, told her to clean up her room. She has done this before, he said, but she usually goes to one of his friends’ house a couple of blocks away.

Scott said he’d been walking the neighborhood since 9:30 a.m. when he learned of his children’s disappearance.

“I had been at the Plasma Center donating plasma to feed my family,” he said.

Sylvia goes to Watkins-Nance Elementary School, her family said. Her brother, who goes by the name “Mikey” is at Meadowfields Elementary School.

I hope I am wrong but I am getting a bad feeling about this one.

These two kiddos were missing for almost 7 hours before the assistance call went out.

Late Saturday, Richland County authorities announced they had found two children missing from their home since early in the day. "They were found at the home of a family friend," said sheriff department spokesman Curtis Wilson Curtis. They were unharmed.
