Poster's Note: Autopsy results are in. Topic being moved. Arrests imminent.

PEORIA —
An autopsy performed Monday determined head injuries "suggestive of
child abuse" caused the death of a 14-month-old Peoria girl, Peoria
County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll said.

Harmoni L. Cole of 1011 W. Windom St. was pronounced dead at 6:25 p.m.
Saturday at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, where she was brought
Friday morning after being found unresponsive in her bed.

Ingersoll said her office and the Peoria Police Department are
continuing to investigate the death, though no arrests have been made.

The toddler lived with her mother, Katrina Cole, and the elder Cole's boyfriend, Antwan Vinson.

Cole said she left the house for about an hour Thursday night after putting the toddler to bed.

An unidentified man spent the night in the house with Vinson and Cole, Ingersoll said.

Toddler's death in March ruled a homicide
14-month-old was found with swelling to her eye; police still investigating

PEORIA — The death of a 14-month-old girl in March was ruled a homicide Thursday by a Peoria County coroner's jury, which then urged police to continue their investigation.

Jurors took five minutes to find the March 3 death of Harmoni L. Cole, 1011 W. Windom St., was a homicide. That doesn't mean charges are forthcoming, however. A coroner's jury rules on the manner of death; whether it is accidental, a homicide or suicide.

The child was pronounced dead at 6:25 p.m. March 3 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, according to Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll. An autopsy revealed Cole died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head.

During a five-minute inquest, Ingersoll told the six-member panel that paramedics were called to the house about 8:25 a.m. March 2. There, they found Cole upstairs in a bedroom with her mother, Katrina Cole, who told police her boyfriend, Antwan Vinson, found the child unresponsive that morning.

The toddler had swelling to her left eye and retinal hemorrhaging, Ingersoll said. But she declined to elaborate on the nature of the injuries, citing the ongoing police investigation.

Peoria police Detective David Armstrong said the injuries were not accidental but also said no one currently faces charges.

State's Attorney Jerry Brady later said his office was continuing to investigate as well. He, too, declined to elaborate on the nature of the injuries except to say an "object" was used.

No one from the child's family was present at the inquest.
