Police issued a Silver Alert Monday for missing Brookfield 17-year-old Henry Manning, who was last seen at Westfield Connecticut Post Mall in Milford between 7 and 7:30 p.m. Friday.

According to Brookfield police officer Mitch Heller, Manning’s mother
reported him missing after he failed to come home from the mall Friday,
where he was hanging out with a friend. The friend told police he had
to leave the mall around 7 p.m. and Manning had told him he would find
his own ride home. He hasn’t been heard from since.

Search for Missing Brookfield Teen Continues

The search is continuing today for a missing Brookfield teenager,
who was last seen March 9 at the Milford mall.

State police issued a Silver Alert, or endangered bulletin, late Monday
afternoon regarding Henry Ralph Manning, son of Jenan and Ralph Manning,
who is said to have an intellectual disability.

“We’re hoping to get Henry home safely,” said Mrs. Manning in a phone
interview Wednesday morning. “The concerning thing is that there has
been nothing heard from him since Friday.”

He had been at the mall with friends but did not leave with them, she said.

Brookfield’s Maj. Jay Purcell said in an interview late Tuesday afternoon that
police have been following up leads but the teen, who is 17, has not
been seen at any of the potential locations.
Henry, who moved to Brookfield with his family when he was 3 years old, is
“socially very outgoing and particularly likes to go to Danbury, where
he has friends, as well as Bethel,” said his mother.

"His non-verbal learning disability doesn’t affect the way he speaks, but he
misses non-verbal, or social, cues, and they are important in
communicating,” Mrs. Manning said. “He is smart but has some serious
problem-solving skills. That’s why we have him attending a private
school in Fairfield County.”

Henry, she said, “can be resourceful. He doesn’t have a cell phone, but if he
wanted to use one he would ask people until he found someone who would
let him borrow one. And he would know what to do if he found an Apple
[technology] store.”

One of the most significant ways Henry enjoys communicating is through his music, according to his mother.
“He is extremely gifted musically,” Mrs. Manning said. “He is a prolific
lyricist, and even though he does not read music he composes music. He
has a phenomenal rote memory and composes poetry as well as music.”

She recounted that Henry collaborated in creating a song called “Ho Ho Ho Under the Mistletoe” for the holidays.
“It was on iTunes. He’s a brilliant musician,” Mrs. Manning said.
She acknowledged that time seems to move slowly as the family waits for news of Henry’s whereabouts.
“We want to know where he is and that he is safe,” she said.

In the police bulletin, the white male is described as having brown hair
and hazel eyes. He is 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighs 135 lbs. He is
said to have 1-inch gauge piercings in his ears and tiny scars on his
upper lip from previous piercings and scars on his wrists and legs.

Henry was last seen wearing a navy blue American Eagle hooded zip-up
sweatshirt, black and gray check basketball shorts, purple and black
argyle socks and black leather topsiders (boat shoes).

A 17-year-old from Brookfield who disappeared from a Milford mall
March 9 contacted his family over the weekend and reported he was safe,
police said.
Henry Ralph Manning, 17, of Brookfield, was last seen with a group of friends at the Westfield Connecticut Post mall, his mother, Jenan, told The News-Times last week.

Brookfield police on Monday announced that Manning contacted his
father and told him that he was in New York City, said Youth Officer Gary Gramling.

"We would like to have someone, i.e. law enforcement, confront him to
make sure he's OK," Gramling said. "It was a long week and a lot of
work was put into it from the police."

Gramling said the police investigation into Manning's disappearance will remain open until he is found.

No further details were available.

Brookfield teenager Henry Manning, 17, who had been missing for over
two weeks, was reportedly reunited with his family Sunday evening.
Police, family and friends had been searching for Manning since he disappeared from Westfield Connecticut Post Shopping Mall in Milford on March 9.

According to Brookfield police
officer Mitchell Heller, mother Jenan Manning contacted the department
after 5 p.m. Sunday, March 25, to report that the family and son had
been reunited.

Manning called his mother, “they made plans to meet up and they did,”
Heller said Sunday evening. Police released few other details except
that the Silver Alert has been lifted and the case is now closed.

Police did not say where the reunion took place, but prior contact from Manning suggested that he was somewhere in New York City.

Members of the Manning family were not immediately available for comment Sunday night.
