Washington Co. couple indicted on sex abuse charges

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ala. (WALA) - A Washington County couple has been indicted in a shocking case of child sex abuse out of Wagarville.

James Ryan Booth, 33, and Julie Ann Guy, 21, were arrested in February after authorities allegedly found video of incest and abuse.

“Looking at pictures, they seem like a normal family. But you never know what goes on behind closed doors,” said Washington Co. Chief Deputy Ferrell Grimes.

Investigators said they discovered some 20 videos in their mobile home in Wagarville.

Deputies said it shows Booth and Guy sexually abusing their 8-month-old daughter and a 4-year-old girl.

Authorities said Guy later admitted to also abusing and having sex with her 5-year-old son on numerous occasions.

A grand jury indicted Booth on 18 charges in the case, while Guy faces 19.

Charges for each include four counts of producing porn with a minor, multiple counts of sex abuse of a child, sodomy and rape first-degree, incest, and a slew of drug charges.

Deputies said a cell phone recorded video of the acts.

“I didn't see all the videos; because to be honest with you, I got sick watching them. But what I understand, there were numerous videos of one
child,” said Chief Deputy Grimes.

The videos were played before a grand jury Friday.

The pair is now expected to be in court Monday, April 9 for their arraignment.

Deputies said Guy is still showing no remorse for her actions and Booth has remained silent while in jail.

I hope these sick nasty monsters get a long time in prison. This is so perverse. I'm sure they'd do it again if they have the opportunity. So utterly disgusting.

They deserve life. Neither of them is fit to be in society.

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ala. (WALA) - James Ryan Booth, 33, and Julie Ann Guy, 21,
made their first court appearances after authorities arrested the pair
for allegedly sexually abusing their 8-month old girl.

Their bond was set at $525,000 each.

Washington County Sheriff Richard Stringer said his office obtained cell phone video of the sexual abuse.
He said Booth and Guy recorded their encounters with the child while using drugs.

“Certainly, it has had an affect on me,” Stringer said. “It’s had an effect on my entire department.”

Police said both suspects are charged with rape and sodomy first degree,
sexual abuse of a minor, possession of a controlled substance, and
chemical endangerment of a child.

Stringer said the abuse happened inside the couple’s home off Parnell Lane in Wagarville.

Authorities said they received a tip and some hard evidence which led them to the
home, where they found the baby smiling as if nothing had happened.

“This child was just bubbling with joy, you know. Just one of those that
smiled no matter what you did or said. And I know the public doesn't
know all what we know about this case, but it is a heartbreaking case,”
Stringer said.

Authorities said they also found a working meth lab in the home.

They said they believe Booth and Guy were manufacturing drugs, and abusing the child together.
“It's bad. It makes me feel bad for the family,” Stringer said. “I don't have any feelings for the defendants. I really don't.”

Stringer said Booth and Guy could possibly face even more charges.

He said Julie Guy also has a 5-year-old son who lived at the home.

I've got to agree with my district attorney. I think we should pursue this
as hard as we've ever pursued any case,” Stringer said.

Stringer said both children have since been turned over to family members.

He said his office is still combing through cell phone files and VHS tapes found at the home for any other recordings.

He is also awaiting forensic results before adding to the charges.
