A Shreveport mother is opening up to KSLA News 12 weeks after her baby's murder.

Shabarbara West says it is hard to believe
the person she trusted in now charged in their toddler's murder. Police
arrested 37 year old Marquice McNeil a day after the baby died. McNeil
is charged with 2nd degree murder.

Shabarbara says she received a call as she
was leaving work on Wednesday, May 2nd. She says police would only tell
her to come home quick. When she arrived at the Milam Street apartment
she shared with McNeil, police told her 23 month Aliyah McNeil had died
shortly after being rushed to the hospital. After an autopsy, the
coroner ruled Aliyah's death a homicide. Shabarbara says authorities
told her, Aliyah was squeezed to death to the point her ribs gave in and
punctured her lungs causing internal bleeding.

Shabarbara says she hasn't spoken with McNeil
but she wants the truth. She says, "I denied it at first because
knowing me and knowing him someone you trust with your kids you
know...until I seen her and viewed her body she had bruises everywhere,
she had bruises everywhere."

Aliyah's death has led to a domino effect of
heartache. At the viewing, Child Protective Services took the couple's
seven month old baby while they investigate. Then a week later
Shabarbara reached a breaking point. After being away from their
apartment for a week, she went back to move, but realized someone had
stolen nearly everything that was in the apartment.

Shabarbara filed a police report. According
to the police report, a flat screen television, a couch and love seat,
curtains, and clothing are missing. At only 19 years old, Shabarbara
faces the sad reality that she must start over without her oldest
daughter, she must rebuild a relationship with her younger daughter, and
move on without the man she fell in love with more than two years ago.

Marquice McNeil remains in the Caddo
Correctional Center. He has a $1,000,000 bond. McNeil will be in court
for a preliminary hearing on June 25th.
