Federal prosecutors in Oklahoma are
seeking the death penalty for a U.S. Army soldier stationed at Fort Sill
who allegedly starved his girlfriend's son.
Marcus Holloway was 10 when he died May 5, 2011. The cause of death was determined to be severe malnutrition.

Prosecutors filed a notice in April that they intend to seek the
death penalty for Connell C. Williams 32, The Oklahoman reported.
Marcus's mother, Candice C. Holloway, 31 pleaded guilty to first-degree
murder in April and agreed to testify against Williams in return for a
30-year sentence.

Both Williams and Holloway are originally from Virginia. Federal
prosecutors say she and her children moved in with him, in housing at
Fort Sill, in 2010.

The Oklahoma Department of Human Services reported both Williams and
Holloway admitted they had been punishing Marcus since January 2011 by
depriving him of food.

"Ms. Holloway reported Marcus was fed rice cakes, cereal bars and
given water to drink on most days," the department said. "Ms. Holloway
admitted she and Mr. Williams would hit Marcus on the buttocks, legs and
head with a belt, plastic bat or drumsticks when he was disrespectful
or would steal food. Ms. Holloway reported the night before Marcus died,
Mr. Williams poured ice water over him as a form of punishment. She
reported all she could recall Marcus eating the day before he died was a
marshmallow pie."

Soldier pleads guilty in starvation death of 10-year-old Oklahoma boy
Connell C. Williams pleads guilty in exchange for life sentence
UPDATED 3:29 PM CST Feb 26, 2013

Connell C. Williams, 33, from Virginia, an enlisted member of the United States Army, was assigned as a PFC to the 214th Fires Brigade at Fort Sill in Comanche County, Okla., in August 2010. Court proceedings showed that in September 2010, Candice C. Hollloway, 32, from Norfolk, Va., and her two children moved into Fort Sill military housing with Williams.

Williams and Holloway were not married and Williams is not the biological father of the two children, according to officials. From early 2011 through May of 2011, Williams and Holloway intentionally withheld food from Marcus Holloway as a form of punishment, which ultimately resulted in his death on May 5, 2011, according to prosecutors.

“Marcus was a 10-year-old boy who was robbed of his life and subjected to a horrific and agonizing death by starvation,” said Coats. “Although nothing can bring Marcus back, I am gratified that Connell Williams has accepted responsibility for his crime. By pleading guilty, he will be in a federal prison cell for the rest of his life and never again harm a child. I thank the investigators and the prosecution team who worked tirelessly to seek and obtain justice for Marcus in this case.”

Williams and Holloway were charged by indictment with first-degree child abuse murder on Sept. 7, 2011. On April 16, 2012, Holloway pleded guilty to first-degree murder in exchange for an agreement to serve a 30 year term in prison, followed by a five years of supervised release, and to cooperate with the prosecution and testify against Williams at his trial.

The Department of Justice originally sought the death penalty against Williams. The trial began last week and Holloway testified against Williams Friday. In exchange for Williams’ plea of guilty to first-degree murder and acceptance of a life sentence, the Department of Justice agreed to withdraw the notice to seek the death penalty. The court accepted the guilty plea early Monday morning and Williams will receive a sentence of life without the possibility of release.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the United States Army Criminal Investigation Division.

How could the "mother" get away with only 30 years!? It seems far worse for a child's own mother to torture him like this. How could she? no no Crying or Very sad
