A statewide Amber Alert was issued today for a 14-year-old North Florida girl.

The alert was issued for Kayla Ruth Whatley of Jasper, which is near the Georgia border.

She was last seen Wednesday in the area of the 7700 block of US Highway 129 South in Jasper, wearing pajamas and black, white and pink Nike shoes,'' the alert said. "She was also carrying a black leather backpack with the letters "PCS" written on it."

Florida missing child alert canceled

JASPER, Fla. -- A Florida missing child alert has been canceled for Kayla Whatley

Kayla Whatley, 14, went missing Wednesday in the area of the 7700 block of US Highway 129 South in Jasper, FL.

Thursday, FDLE says the case has been resolved and canceled the alert.

Missing Hamilton County girl found safe

Jasper — A 14-year-old Hamilton County girl who went missing Wednesday was safely located Thursday afternoon and found to be unharmed, according to Hamilton County Sheriff Harrell Reid.

Kayla Ruth Whatley, 14, left her Hamilton County home on her own and spent the day alone in nearby woods, authorities say.

“She was located about three or four miles away from home,” Reid confirmed. “She had walked away and said that she needed time alone and had spent some time in the woods.”

According to Reid, the HCSO was notified that Whatley was missing around 5:30 a.m. on Thursday and immediately began investigating the matter.

“We went through the day trying to figure things out, but really didn’t have a lot to go on,” Reid said.

Through their investigation and contacts, the HCSO determined that Whatley had been contemplating leaving and a break came through when she left the woods and placed a telephone call, requesting that a friend pick her up.

Authorities were then able to determine the juvenile’s whereabouts and locate her.

“Thankfully it all ended well,” Reid said.
