"Newborn Jane" FURLOW - 4 Months (2011) Accused: Father-Keith Furlow - Atlanta GA

A grand jury indicted an Atlanta father Thursday over the death of
his four-month-old daughter, who died after allegedly being fed vodka
mixed with baby formula.

Keith Furlow, 30, was indicted on charges of felony murder and
cruelty to children in the second degree, related to his baby's June
2011 death, myFOXatlanta.com reported.


A toxicology report showed that the baby had a blood-alcohol concentration level of .1119, police said.


DeKalb County District Attorney Robert James said he could not discuss a motive for the crime.

Oh I'm sure he'll cite the old wives tale about rubbing alcohol on a teething baby's gums or some such other BS.

---That's more than just a little! The legal limit for an adult in this state is .08. This newborn probably weighed less than 15 pounds. That would be like big 'ol me drinking a few quarts of booze in a short period of time. I, like her, would be dead. According to the estimation charts used by police and courts a 150 pound person would reach that level after 4 beers or mixed drinks. Extrapolating, that means he gave that little girl the equivalent of 40 drinks. I would succumb too.

Which is why I said "bs." Just because logically, to us, that is a lot of alcohol, someone trying to dodge murder will try anything.

---Certainly, it's the old "let's throw spaghetti at the wall and see what sticks" defense. Blame it on the mean old sexually abusing grandfather, for instance. Perhaps the bogeyman came and stole the victim in the middle of the night and subsequently drowned him or her.
These defenses are paper thin and any armchair criminologist can see right through them.
It seems that the best defense of late is just to say nothing at all. Witness the case of Kyron Horman.

Yeah, I'm not sure how pretending to NOT know where you kid is is acceptable. If you lose your kid, and don't report the kid missing there's a problem. You are guilty of something, and in my opinion, of anything bad that happens to that kid even if you aren't the one who officially harmed the baby.
