FBI, State Police join search for missing West Windsor boy

Published: Saturday, June 16, 2012, 9:16 AM Updated: Saturday, June 16, 2012, 9:16 AM

WEST WINDSOR — The FBI and
the New Jersey State Police have joined the search for a 5-year-old boy
who has been missing for more than 14 hours now after he was allegedly
abducted by his grandfather Friday night, authorities said.
David Lundy, was allegedly taken by Morris “Tommy” Lundy, 50, of New
York about 6:30 p.m. from in front of 465 Meadow Road in West Windsor
township, according to information provided by the Mercer County
Prosecutor's office.

West Windsor Police and the prosecutor's office began a search for the
boy and his alleged kidnapper. Now they have been joined by state and
federal agencies.

"Several areas are planned to be searched," said Angelo Onofri, assistant prosecutor at Mercer County Prosecutor's office.

The boy is a light-skinned black male, about 3-and-a-half feet tall,
55 pounds, sandy short hair, and last wearing a white and green shirt
and blue cargo shorts.

Lundy is described as a black male, 5 feet 10 inches tall, 180 pounds,
with Hazel eyes but Onofri said a photo issued yesterday may no longer
be an accurate representation of the alleged kidnapper.
"His appearance is significantly different from the picture that
was put out," Onofri said. "He is now clean shaven on his head; he's
bald."

It is believed Lundy was heading to New York state, the prosecutor’s office said.

Anyone with information should call 911 or West Windsor police at (609) 799-1222.

Cops: Missing West Windsor boy, 5, has chronic illness

Published: Saturday, June 16, 2012, 9:17 PM Updated: Saturday, June 16, 2012, 10:06 PM

WEST WINDSOR — The
quest to find David Lundy, the 5-year-old West Windsor boy who was
allegedly kidnapped Friday evening, grew more urgent today after police
learned the boy suffers from a chronic illness, authorities said.

The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office said late Friday the boy may have been abducted by his grandfather.

“All the officers are being extremely vigilant to bring David back
as soon as possible. I would also add there is a great potential for
danger, because of a chronic illness that could go untreated,” Mercer
County Assistant Prosecutor Angelo Onofri said today.

Onofri declined to clarify the specific nature of the medical
problem faced by the boy who, until recently, attended preschool at
Maurice Hawk Elementary School.

“There is enhanced concern because we do not know whether young David has his medication and is taking it,” Onofri said.
A felony warrant for kidnapping was issued for Morris “Tommy” Lundy
today, according to the National Center for Missing and Exploited
Children.

Authorities described David Lundy as a light-skinned African
American boy, with short, sandy hair, approximately 3 feet, 4 inches
tall and weighing 55 pounds. He was last seen wearing a white and green
shirt and blue cargo shorts.
The boy’s grandfather, Morris Lundy, is described as an African
American male, 5’ 10”, 180 pounds, with hazel eyes. He was last seen
with a shaved head, police said.

Volunteers, police, and teams of search dogs combed areas of woods outside the boy’s home on the 400 block of Meadow Road.
Investigators believe Lundy, 50, a resident of New York, may still
be in the area or he may have traveled to Brooklyn or Binghamton, N.Y.

“Officers continue to follow leads and search areas of interest,” Mercer County Assistant Prosecutor Angelo Onofri said.

Investigators have been in contact with the Lundy family, Onofri
said, but he declined to offer details about their contacts with family
members closest to the alleged kidnapper.

Reacting to the boy’s disappearance, the West Windsor Police
Department issued an Amber Alert shortly before 7 p.m. Friday. The goal
of an Amber Alert is to instantly galvanize the community to assist in
the search for and safe recovery of the child.
Since that time, officers with the West Windsor and Lawrence police
departments, the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office, the county
Sheriff’s Department, the State Police, FBI, and the National Center
for Missing and Exploited Children have been trying to locate the pair,
police said.

Though police had earlier said they do not believe the boy’s
grandfather is likely to physically harm him, Onofri said the quickly
narrowing window of recovering children hours after a kidnapping still
applied.

“You have to treat every missing child case like that,” Onofri said.

Police are asking anyone who has information concerning the case to
contact the West Windsor Police Department at (609) 799-1222.

The search for David Lundy, the 5-year-old West Windsor boy who was
allegedly kidnapped Friday evening, continues as authorities say they
are growing more concerned over the boy's health.

"He has an asthma condition, and as we understand it, it can be
severe at times,"
Mercer County Assistant Prosecutor Angelo Onofri said
this afternoon.

On Saturday, Onofri first referenced Lundy's medical condition.

"There is enhanced concern because we do not know whether young David has his medication and is taking it," he said.

According to an alert issued by the New Jersey State Police this
morning, the task force searching for the young boy is "now focused on
several locations in Brooklyn, N.Y. that have been deemed relevant to
the case."

The Prosecutor's Office said late Friday the boy may have been abducted by his grandfather.

A felony warrant for kidnapping was issued for Morris "Tommy" Lundy

in the area or he may have traveled to Brooklyn or Binghamton, N.Y.

"Officers continue to follow leads and search areas of interest," Mercer County Assistant Prosecutor Angelo Onofri said.

members closest to the alleged kidnapper.

WEST WINDSOR – The
teams of investigators searching for 5-year-old David Lundy do not
believe the man suspected of taking him from his West Windsor home
yesterday evening is likely to hurt the boy.

The boy’s grandfather, Morris “Tommy” Lundy, a 50-year-old New York
resident, allegedly abducted his grandson from his township home on the
400 block of Meadow Road at approximately 6:30 p.m. yesterday, police
said.

“There have been no threats of harm to the child in this case,” said
Officer David Barberich of the West Windsor Police Department. “We are
not looking at this as though the child is at risk of being harmed
physically.”

The West Windsor Police Department issued an “Amber Alert,” a
warning system for reporting missing children, shortly before 7 p.m.
yesterday.

Since then, officers with the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office,
Mercer County Sheriff's Department, NJ State Police, FBI, and the
National Center for Missing and Exploited Children have been trying to
locate the pair, police said.

American male, 5’ 10”, 180 pounds, with long black hair and hazel eyes,
police said.

Morris Lundy may be heading to New York State, police said.

Search for Missing West Windsor Boy Focuses on Brooklyn

By John Arthur, Michael Ratcliffe, and Greta Cuyler

Authorities say David Lundy, 5, of West Windsor, missing since Friday night, requires medication for a chronic illness.

Investigators leading a two-state search for a missing West Windsor
boy are now concentrating on Brooklyn, according to New Jersey State
Trooper Christopher Kay.

The Brooklyn focus follows information cited by authorities on
Saturday that the boy's maternal grandfather may have taken him north,
toward New York. A law enforcement alert cited by Kay states: "The task
force investigating the abduction of David Lundy 5, from West Windsor
NJ is now focused on several locations in Brooklyn, N.Y. that have been
deemed relevant to the case."

West Windsor Police Lt. Robert Garofalo said David Lundy was about
to be removed from the home he shared with his aunt on Meadow Road by
New Jersey's Department of Youth of Families, after both she and the
boy's grandfather were determined not to be suitable guardians.

Search teams were active in West Windsor Saturday morning, near
where authorities say the boy was last seen walking with his
grandfather. Onofri described the search as proactive.

At 10:50 a.m. Saturday, a volunteer emergency worker at the search
scene said fire crews had conducted sweeps through the woods near the
boy's home. Searchers walked shoulder to shoulder in a line through the
woods near the apartment complex, the volunteer said, but nothing was
found and volunteers were leaving the scene to law enforcement
personnel.

According to the prosecutor's office, the search, which began with a
7 p.m. alert Friday night, includes personnel from the New Jersey State
Police, FBI, Mercer County Sheriff's Office, National Center for Missing
and Exploited Children and West Windsor Township Police. Local
residences and businesses were being canvassed and police K-9 units
were deployed.

Onofri said a silver Volvo, originally believed connected to the incident, was no longer an object of the search.

Anyone with information about the child’s whereabouts is asked to
call 911 immediately. If you have more information about the abduction,
contact the West Windsor Police Department at 609-799-1222.

This story was originally posted at 7:55 p.m. on June 15, and updated at 11 p.m.

David Lundy Of West Windsor Found In South Carolina

By: Dan Alexander | 3 hours ago

5 year old David Lundy of West Windsor, abducted by his grandfather
on Friday has been found safe in a South Carolina fast food restaurant.

West Windsor Police, who worked with the FBI, State Police and other
agencies to find the boy, confirm the arrest around 11:30AM on Tuesday
morning.

David was found with his grandfather, 50-year-old Morris “Tommy”
Lundy, who is being held by the Florence County, South Carolina
Sheriff’s Office. Morris faces kidnapping, interference with child
custody and endangering the welfare of a child.

David will spend the night in South Carolina as representatives from
the New Jersey Department of Youth & Family Services make their way
to get David. David is in “good spirits” according to the Mercer County
Prosecutor’s Office and not showing any ill effects of his asthma.

Official searched both the area around the boy’s West Windsor home as well as in Brooklyn over the weekend. WABC TV reports that Morris Lundy has several ties to South Carolina.

West Windsor Police Lt. Robert Garofalo told the Patch of Brooklyn
that David Lundy was about to be removed from the home he shared with
his aunt by New Jersey’s Department of Youth of Families, after both
she and the boy’s grandfather were determined not to be suitable
guardians. The Florence County Sheriff’s Department has the West
Windsor home located at 465 Meadow Road as Morris Lundy’s address.

Kristine Brown, spokesperson for the New Jersey Department of
Children & Family could not comment on this or any specific case
DYFUS is involved with. She says that a child will be removed from a
home when there are “severe concerns over a child’s safety.”

West Windsor Police will hold a press conference to discuss the arrest tomorrow.
