Mother arrested in connection with child beating (+ Arrest affidavit)

Midland police arrested the mother of a 7-month-old who was severely beaten Tuesday and are looking for her boyfriend.
Detectives allege Jesse Joe Rodriguez, 40, repeatedly beat the infant, causing severe head trauma,
while the child's mother, Stephanie A. Tedlock, 26, allowed the abuse
and declined to seek medical treatment for her child.

Tedlock is being held on a $100,000 bond for a
third-degree felony of injury to a child by omission. On June 13,
Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace David Cobos issued a warrant for Rodriguez's arrest.

The Abilene Police Department contacted Midland
Police Department detectives June 3 about child abuse they believed
occurred within Midland city limits. Abilene investigators said a child
was taken to a nearby medical facility with a "skull fracture, broken
arm and several broken ribs," according to Tedlock's and Rodriguez's arrest warrants.

Abilene detectives said Rodriguez dropped off
Tedlock, the infant and her two other children, ages 4 and 5, at a truck
stop about 10 miles from the city limits.

During the interview with Tedlock, she allegedly said
that while she was at work the previous week, Rodriguez told her the
baby fell off the bed and was injured. She said she wanted to take the
child to the hospital but Rodriguez told her not to because the doctors
would blame him for the injury, the warrants stated.

Tedlock said Rodriguez, his mother, his children and her children
were en route to Dallas. She got out of the car in Tye because "Jesse
got mad at her and the kids," according to the warrant. She then called
police as he allegedly drove off with his children and his mother, Tedlock told police.

Her children were interviewed on June 4 by Abilene
Child Protective Services caseworkers. The children said they did not
see the infant fall off a bed but heard a sound and then Rodriguez told
them about the baby. The children also said "when Jesse gets mad (at
them) he has hit the baby with a belt" even though the child did nothing wrong, the warrants stated.

Abilene doctors said the injuries were not
accidental. The infant had surgery for the skull fracture and broken arm
and also suffered eight fractured ribs.

If convicted, Tedlock could face up to 10 years in prison.

Anyone with any information leading to Rodriguez's
arrest should contact Crime Stoppers at 694-TIPS or the Midland Police
Department at 685-7108.

Could serve up to 10 years in jail? That's all he gets or assaulting an innocent tiny baby and breaking all those bones and causing a head fracture? Pitiful. He will probably ending up serving a few years and get out and beat again. So tragic.
