Lawrence mom charged after child dies from eating painkillers

LAWRENCE, Kan. - A mother in Lawrence, Kan., has been charged with involuntary manslaughter after her child died from eating painkillers.

Rebecca Wynne, 25, was also charged with two counts of child endangerment on Thursday.

According to a statement from Charles Branson, Douglas County district attorney, an autopsy revealed the 5-year-old boy died from ingesting opiates on April 27.

Officials say Wynne illegally obtained the drugs. The boy and his two siblings, ages 6 and 4, were playing a counting game with the pills before he died.

All three children ingested the opiates. The two surviving children are now in protective custody.
