A Cincinnati babysitter killed a six-month-old boy by slamming him against a wall, police said.

Frederick Mitchell, 21, is accused of causing tiny Elliot Megrditchian's death when he was looking after him on Friday.

Mitchell has been charged with felonious assault and is held on $1 million bond, with Hamilton County Prosecutor Jackie Mikita saying she expects the charges to be upgraded.

This, she told Judge Lisa C. Allen, is on the grounds that "he knowingly caused serious physical harm to the child."

Angela Mitchell, the accused's mother, said her son had not been feeling well recently - and believes he blacked out and tried to throw the child towards the bed.

When he woke up, she claims he realized that the baby was not moving or breathing.

"I think he blacked out, I really do," she told wlwt.com, before adding: "It was an accident, no matter how you look at it, it was an accident."

Cops found marijuana at Mitchell's Sedamsville home, which he shares with the baby's mother, during his arrest.

An autopsy will determine whether Mitchell's charges should be upgraded. A result is due later this week.

He looks like a meth head. Shameful his mother says it's an accident no matter how you look at it. What the hell kind of person throws a baby in the first place? No matter the intended landing place, one should NEVER throw a baby. It is NOT an accident!!!!

OH man charged with murder in baby's death

CINCINNATI (AP) - A prosecutor says a man has been charged with murder and felonious assault in the death of a 6-month-old boy in southwest Ohio.

Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters says 21-year-old Frederick Mitchell, of Cincinnati, was indicted Friday and could be sentenced to life in prison if convicted.

Authorities say Mitchell was an acquaintance of the child's mother and was home alone with Elliot Megrditchian on March 8 when he called 911 to report that the baby was not breathing.

The baby was taken to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, where he died March 10th.

The Hamilton County Coroner ruled this week that the death was homicide as the result of blunt force.

Mitchell's bail was set at $1 million. His attorney didn't immediately return a call to his office Friday.
