Authorities in Missouri are searching for missing 12-year-old Adrianna Horton. She was last seen at about 5 p.m. on Aug. 19, and police fear she is in danger.

Adrianna was playing with friends outside when she disappeared from Golden City, Missouri. Officials with the Barton County Sheriff's Office say she was seen getting into a vehicle. That vehicle was found, and the driver was taken into custody. But there is still no sign of Adrianna. Officials fear Adrianna could be in danger and have released an Endangered Person Advisory for the state of Missouri.

Adrianna was wearing a pink T-shirt with hearts on it and jean shorts. She is described as white with short brown hair and brown eyes. She is 4 feet 5 inches tall and weighs 70 pounds.

UPDATED: Mother, father of missing girl asking anyone with information to contact sheriff

GOLDEN CITY, Mo. — UPDATED 11:56 a.m. — Wendi Jackson, the mother of 12-year-old Adrianna Horton who has been missing since Monday evening, has come to Golden City to help search for her daughter.

"I just want my baby back in my arms," said the Overland Park woman.

James Horton, the father, said his daughter came home from her first day of school in a great mood Monday and then headed to a park a half-block from her home in the afternoon with her sisters, where they were joined by friends.

James said he is certain his daughter would not have run away, and is asking anyone in the community with information to contact the Barton County Sheriff's Department.

"Everyone in the community has been very supportive, the school has been great," he said, noting that even teachers joined in the search last night.

The Barton County Sheriff's Office said Adrianna Horton was last seen getting into a vehicle there about 5 p.m. Monday. The vehicle was stopped about 6:30 p.m. and a suspect was taken into custody but the girl was not with him.

Searchers are using horses, all-terrain vehicles, dogs and a patrol helicopter to search around the small town.

Horton is described as 4-feet-5-inches tall and weighing 70 pounds.  She has short brown hair, brown eyes and a fair complexion.

UPDATED 11:06 a.m. — More than 400 trained law enforcement officers, volunteers and others searched Golden City Monday night and early today for a young girl who went missing Monday evening. The search is still continuing.

According to the Barton County Sheriff’s Department, 12-year-old Adrianna Horton of Golden City was playing in the park with friends, who noticed she had gone missing and notified her father, who called 911.

Witnesses also said Horton was observed getting into a vehicle at approximately 5 p.m. Monday. The driver and vehicle were located about 6:30 p.m. The vehicle has been impounded and the man that the Barton County Sheriff’s Department said was a “suspect” is being detained.

“Everyone in the community is working really hard trying to find her,” Barton County Sheriff Mitchell Shaw said this morning. “This is a very family-oriented community.”

UPDATED 10:16 a.m. — The search is intensifying this morning for a missing Golden City girl.

Searchers on horseback, on ATVs and with dogs are covering the ground around the small community. A Missouri State Highway Patrol helicopter with infrared scanning capability also joined in the search this morning.

The Barton County Sheriff’s Office says 12-year-old Adrianna Horton was last seen getting into a vehicle in Golden City around 5 p.m. Monday. The vehicle was stopped about 6:30 p.m. and a man was detained for questioning, but the girl was not with him.

The car has been impounded and the man is still being held this morning.

The FBI and Missouri State Highway Patrol are helping with the search.

Horton is described as 4-feet-5-inches tall and weighing 70 pounds. She has short brown hair, brown eyes and a fair complexion.

Father says searchers found missing girl's body

GOLDEN CITY, Mo. -- The father of a missing 12-year-old girl says searchers found her body on Wednesday afternoon.   Adriaunna Horton of Golden City disappeared on Monday afternoon from Hazel's Park, where she was playing with friends near her home after the first day of the new school year.  A man from Lamar is charged with kidnapping her.

James Horton told reporters about the discovery of Adriaunna's body about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.  He didn't have other details.

Sgt. Jason Pace, a spokesman for the Missouri State Highway Patrol, said he could not confirm that Adriaunna's body was found, but said the Horton family was going to Lamar, the Barton County seat, to look at a body.

More than 250 volunteers and employees of about 15 public service agencies looked for Adriaunna on Monday evening, all day Tuesday, and Wednesday.  They rode on horseback and four-wheelers, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol used dive teams and a helicopter.

Bobby D. Bourne Jr., 34, was charged on Tuesday for kidnapping the girl on Monday. He's in the Barton County jail in lieu of a $1 million bond.

Officers arrested Bourne on Monday evening about 90 minutes after Adriaunna's friends said Bourne drove Adriaunna away from the park.  The friends said Adriaunna left with Bourne because Bourne said he needed her help to find his daughter, with whom Adraunna had played in the past.  Horton's father says Bourne once worked for him.

Posted August 20, 2013 at 5:42 AM CST:  The Barton County Sheriff's Department has issued an endangered person advisory for Adriaunna Horton, 12, approx. 4'5", 70 lbs, short brown hair, fair complexion, wearing a pink t-shirt with hearts on it and jean shorts.


Authorities say she went missing near Golden Ave. at High St. in Golden City, MO around 5:00 PM Monday evening.

Initial reports indicate, about a half hour later, a possible suspect and vehicle were located, with the person of interest taken into custody.

Sgt. Mike Watson with the Missouri Highway Patrol says a search will continue throughout the morning, and a media briefing will be held later this morning.

Anyone with information on Horton's whereabouts is asked to contact the Barton County Sheriff's Department.

Updated August 20, 2013 at 10:40 AM CST: A media briefing was scheduled for 10 a.m. in Golden City in the case of missing child Adriaunna Horton.  She's been missing since 5:00 pm last night.

A suspect was taken into custody, but the girl is still missing.

The search continues for Adriaunna Horton, 12, of Golden City, Missouri.

Authorities say Horton was playing at Hazel Park when other children there realized she wasn't there.  The children contacted Horton's father, who then called 911 at about 5:30 p.m. on Monday.


At about 6:30 p.m. a man driving a vehicle described by witnesses who saw the girl get into it was taken into custody.  Barton County Sheriff Mitchell Shaw says the man may have resided in Golden City at one point and he is familiar with the subject.

In addition to numerous volunteers, 14 agencies are either on site or en route to help in the search for Horton according to Missouri Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Sgt. Mike Watson.  A helicopter and watercraft has been involved in the search.  The Red Cross, Missouri Highway Patrol, Barton County Sheriff's Office, Jasper County Sheriff's Office and Webb City Police Department are among those on site.

Hundreds of first responders and volunteers are flocking to Golden City, Missouri to help locate a missing girl.  Adriaunna Horton is 4 feet 5 inches tall, weighs 70 pounds and was last seen Monday evening at Hazel Park wearing a pink t-shirt with hearts on it and jeans.

"Like somebody tore my heart out of my chest and stomped it into the ground and walked off," says James Horton, Adriaunna's father.  "If you take everything bad you can think of and all the worst feelings you have and multiple it by 1,0000."


Adriaunna Horton went missing Monday night from Hazel Park, where witnesses reported her getting into a vehicle.

"I had come outside and dialed 911 and said 'I need officers now' and I found a first responder and got her screaming on her phone," James Horton says.

As soon as word started to spread James Horton says many in the community begin joining together to help in the search.  Before long 14 law enforcement agencies and 15 fire rescue were in town looking for this little girl.  City Hall has been made into a makeshift headquarters.  More than 250 volunteers have already come from across the area to help locate.  K-9 and horse rescue teams, as well as watercraft are searching the area.  A helicopter was brought in early on Tuesday.

Many say in a town like Golden City, with a population under 750, everyone is family, which makes the hunt for Adriaunna that much more vital.

"It's just really family oriented here, around here, around Golden City, and everyone is shocked and they are working really hard to find this missing lady," says Barton County Sheriff Mitchell Shaw.

The town's mayor says the response has been incredible.

"It says that the people of Southwest Missouri are true and they stick together - when one is in trouble everyone comes," says Mayor Harry Lopez.

James Horton is a father of four and says he appreciates all of the community outpouring of support and will take all of the help he can locating his little girl.

The vehicle described by witnesses was found about an hour after Adriaunna went missing, but she was nowhere in sight.

Authorities say they released an endangered missing person alert and not an Amber Alert because the vehicle in question had already been located, with a suspect taken into custody.

Sgt. Mike Watson of the Missouri Highway Patrol was hesitant to call this incident a kidnapping, or to call the man in custody a suspect, but did confirm the man had a connection to Adriaunna's father.

There is a 24 hour hold period before a person in custody must be charged or released and according to Sgt. Watson that will run out around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

"Obviously our priority is finding her, I don't want to put a timetable on it and indicating, 'hey, we're going to do it for this long' and right now I don't think it's fair," says Sgt. Watson.

Authorities say they are expanding their search as new leads come in, and will not put an end date on the search.  Volunteers tell us they are willing to keep searching until someone sends her home.

Updated August 23, 2013 at 2:30 PM CST:  An afternoon media conference today confirmed that a body found Wednesday in rural Golden City is in fact Adriaunna Horton.

The Missouri Highway Patrol says an autopsy was preformed Thursday morning in Springfield, but they have not released details on what was found at this time.

The man charged with the kidnapping of Horton, Bobby Bourne Jr., has been moved from Barton County to Jasper County jail.  MHP says charges have not been upgraded at this time.

However, the Barton County prosecuting attorney says new charges will be brought against Bourne, either Friday or early next week.

The Barton County sheriff says Bourne was moved to the Jasper County jail for security reasons.

Adriaunna Marie Horton was born April 19, 2001, to James William Horton and Wendi Renea Jackson, in Grove, Okla. She went to meet the Lord on Aug. 19, 2013.

Adriaunna grew up in Golden City, Mo., and was in the 6th grade at Golden City R-3 Schools. She attended the First Christian Church in Golden City and participated in the youth group and children's choir. Adriaunna had played ball from age 5 to 11. She loved horses, nature and being outside playing with her sisters, cousins and friends. She was a free spirit that always had a smile and a hug for you and wanted to help everyone. Adriaunna was a true little angel loved by her class and many others.

Adriaunna is survived by her parents, James W. Horton, Golden City, and Wendi Jackson, Overland Park, Kan.; her sisters, Destiny Nicole, Lydia Michelle and Madison Lynn Horton, of the home; her paternal grandparents L.C. and Velma Horton, Golden City; her maternal grandparents, Wiley Jackson, Grove, and Brenda Brewer, Eugene, Ore.; her uncles, Larry Wayne Horton and wife, Jenna, Golden City, Cliff Horton and wife, Christy, Arcola, Mo., Chad Jackson, and Cody Jackson and wife, Lacey, both from Grove; and her cousins, Chester, Dalton, Cutter, Ashley and Haley Horton, Maci, Carley, Chea, Nathaniel and Denver Jackson. Many other relatives, classmates, friends and neighbors will cherish the memories of this loving and caring young lady.

Man charged with kidnapping SW Missouri girl who remains missing

Bourne is being held on kidnapping and murder charges in murder of 12-year-old Adriaunna Horton.
In April, a judge convicted Bourne to five years probation for the 2011 charge of second-degree assault on a law enforcement officer and three counts of domestic assault against his current wife.

A judge issued a warrant for Bourne saying he violated his probation the same day he was charged with kidnapping Adriaunna. He was later charged with first-degree murder, forcible rape, statutory rape and kidnapping.

Since he's been charged with a crime while on probation, that is now revoked.

Now that his probation has been revoked, Bourne will likely spend 15 years for those crimes.

His next court date in the Horton case is Sept. 9.

Bobby Bourne waives preliminary hearing in Adrianna Horton murder, charges amended

LAMAR, Mo. — Bobby D. Bourne Jr., 34, of Lockwood, waived his preliminary hearing in Barton County Circuit Court today on multiple charges in the disappearance and death of Adriaunna Horton, 12, of Golden City, last summer.

Charges also have been amended against Bourne. He is now facing first-degree murder, kidnapping, and first-degree statutory rape charges. He had originally been facing a forcible rape charge, as well.

Bourne initially denied having taken Horton on Aug. 19 from Hazel Park in Golden City where she went to play with her sisters and friends. However, he later admitted having picked her up and directed investigators to the site in neighboring Dade County where her body was recovered two days later, according to probable cause affidavits.

Bourne told investigators that he drove the girl to a vacant home in Golden City to question her as to the whereabouts of her father, James Horton, a former friend and co-worker. Bourne told investigators Adriaunna fell as she tried to run away from him and died as a result of the fall, but an autopsy conducted in Springfield on Thursday found evidence that she had been strangled. Her body also showed signs of sexual assault.

Bourne Pleads Not Guilty for Murder of Adriaunna Horton

LAMAR, Mo. -- The man accused of the kidnapping and murder of Adriaunna Horton waived formal arraignment today in Barton County and entered a not guilty plea in the case.

Bobby Bourne, who is charged with kidnapping, rape, and first-degree murder in the death of the 12-year-old Barton County girl, is to be back in the courtroom on March 17 for a pre-hearing conference, according to online court records.

According to the court documents, after being arrested, Bourne admitted to picking up Horton near Hazel's Park. He claimed Horton later ran away from him, fell down and died from injuries in the fall.

The probable cause statement says Bourne led investigators to a wooded area southwest of Golden City, where he said Horton's body would be found.

An autopsy showed Adriaunna was strangled to death.

Bourne is being held on $2 million bond.

State: Revenge Possible Motive in Girl’s Death

LAMAR, Mo. (AP) - Prosecutors say a man who’s accused of kidnapping and killing a 12-year-old southwest Missouri girl did it to get revenge after his wife and the girl’s father had an affair.

The potential motive for the August 2013 death of Adriaunna Horton of Golden City was revealed Thursday during a change of venue hearing in the Barton County Circuit Court case against Bobby Bourne Jr., of Lockwood.

Bourne has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder, statutory rape and child kidnapping. The state plans to seek the death penalty.

A motive has never been publicly stated but a prosecutor briefly mentioned the state’s theory during the hearing, The Joplin Globe reported. The alleged affair occurred while Bourne was in jail, said Kevin Zoellner, an assistant attorney general.

“When (Bourne) went to (jail), Mr. Horton wound up having a sexual affair with his wife,” Zoellner told Circuit Judge James Journey, adding that prosecutors believe “the payback was killing his daughter.”

A probable-cause affidavit alleges that Bourne picked up the girl at Hazel Park in Golden City and took her to an abandoned house, where he questioned her about the whereabouts of her father, James Horton.

Bourne told investigators that Adriaunna died after she fell while trying to run from him. Investigators have said they found evidence of sexual assault and an autopsy determined the girl had been strangled.

The defendant’s wife, Brandy Bourne, and James Horton acknowledged the affair in a Thursday telephone interview with the newspaper.

They said it began when it appeared Bourne might be in prison for several years. When that changed, Brandy Bourne ended the relationship with Horton and told her husband about the affair, she said, and the couple went to marriage counseling when Bourne was released from jail. She said she now intends to divorce her husband.

During the hearing, the circuit judge ruled that a jury will be selected in Buchanan County and brought to Barton County for the trial, which is scheduled to start Sept. 21, 2015.
