Couple arrested 'after their young children are found in deplorable conditions eating human excrement'

A couple from West Virginia have been arrested after police allegedly found their two young children handling and eating human excrement in their filthy home.

Michael Paul Perry, 28, and Crystal Sidney Perry, 19, were taken into custody after sheriff deputies found their children, aged one and two, held in a room covered in feces in Ashland.

McDowell County officers responded to the home on Thursday after a Child Protective Services worker tried to remove the children from the home but was met with resistance from the parents.

The CPS worker alerted officers that they were in need of immediate assistance at the residence.

When officers arrived, they met with the CPS worker, who showed them the deplorable conditions the children were allegedly living in.

According to the criminal complaint, the detective saw that the children were filthy and handling the human excrement.

'The room in which the children were being held had human excrement in the floor and that the children had been eating the excrement,' the complaint said.

Sheriff's Sgt. J.E. Muncy said the human waste 'was on candy that they were eating'.

The parents were arrested and charged with child abuse creating substantial risk of injury.

They were both arraigned in magistrates court and bond has been set at $100,000 each.

Both have been sent to the McDowell County holding unit and are awaiting transport to Southwestern Regional Jail.

In West Virginia, a charge of creating a substantial risk of serious bodily injury carries a sentence of one to five years in prison and a $3,000 fine.

I shed some tears on this one.  I thanked God several times that they got the children out before they died.  Why is it that a total stranger and single man has more love and concern about two little babies than their own parents?  Why do people like that get to have babies?  Just breaks my heart to hear of little one's treated like that.  William
