Bus driver gets life in prison for raping 6-year-old girl whose mother shared photos of crime

Leander Adams was sentenced to life in prison for his crimes against a 6-year-old Dallas County girl.
The convicted rapist must serve about 30 years before he’s eligible for parole. He was also fined $10,000.

A jury delivered a quick guilty verdict this morning in the trial of a former DART bus driver who repeatedly molested his girlfriend’s 6-year-old child.
Leander Douglas Adams III, 47, was charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child in 2011 after prosecutors say he and the girl’s mother raped the child and took explicit photos of the encounter.
“Mr. Lee did something to me,” the girl testified Wednesday. “He made me have sex.”
Adams, looking at the floor this morning, stood to receive the verdict, delivered after just an hour of deliberations. His defense attorney had hoped to convince the jury that the girl’s mother was a liar.
The mother, Hollie Christine Chapman, pleaded guilty last year to federal child pornography charges in exchange for a 30-year sentence. She still faces trial in the sex assault case.
The abuse came to light after Chapman sent the explicit pictures to another man, who alerted authorities.’
The sentencing phase of the trial begins immediately with the girl’s adoptive mother taking the stand first.
