FORT WORTH, Texas -
There's a new development in the case of a teenage mother who is in jail accused of beating her 3-year-old daughter to death.

Fort Worth police said 19-year-old Janice Anthony beat 3-year-old Paris Howard over potty training.

She was charged with injury to a child with serious bodily injury.

The charges against her could be upgraded once the medical examiner makes an official ruling on the little girl's cause of death.

Earlier this month, police were called to Anthony's apartment in the 5400 block of Enclave Circle in southwest Fort Worth.

Police said they found the 3-year-old's body on the floor.

Investigators believe she had been hit several times in the days before she died.

It was one week before her fourth birthday.

FORT WORTH, Texas -
Court documents reveal what the mother of a little girl told police about her death and what investigators took from an apartment as evidence.

Police said 19-year-old Janice Anthony called 911 from a cell phone on Sept. 10 around 10:40 a.m. and told dispatchers that her daughter wasn't breathing. She said she was attempting CPR in their second-floor apartment in southwest Fort Worth.

A search warrant affidavit indicates she told detectives she woke up and discovered 3-year-old Paris Howard was not breathing so she moved her to the bathroom to try to revive her.

Anthony also said her daughter had fallen down the stairs four days earlier, but that she didn't seek medical treatment for her.

Police said that story is inconsistent with bruises on the child's abdomen, face and arms.

The same document lists items seized from a separate apartment on East Berry Street including blankets, hand-colored pictures, duct tape, a gray extension cord, a belt and swabs of a stain from a bedroom ceiling.

Police would not elaborate on how the second apartment fits into the investigation.

Detectives have said Anthony beat the girl out of frustration during potty training.

She's being held on a charge of injury to a child with a bond set at $100,000.

The charges against her could be upgraded once a medical examiner rules on Howard's official cause of death.

DALLAS -
The Fort Worth mother convicted of killing her daughter over bathroom accidents was sentenced to 35 in prison.

Janice Rene Anthony, 20, pleaded guilty to the September 2012 murder of 3-year-old Paris Howard.

Police said she originally told them bruises on Paris' body were caused by a fall down some stairs. But a medical examiner determined she was strangled to death.

Anthony later admitted to beating the child while trying to potty train her and said she choked her on the night before she was found dead.

Staff writer Ann Smajstrla reports:

A Fort Worth woman has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for strangling her 3-year-old daughter to death last year.

Janice Rene Anthony, 20, pleaded guilty Friday morning to murdering her daughter, Paris Howard.

On September 6, 2012, police were called to Anthony’s southwest Fort Worth apartment, where they found Paris dead, her body badly bruised. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office later determined the child’s cause of death to be “asphyxia by manual strangulation.”

Anthony first told police that Paris had fallen down some stairs. She later admitted that she spanked, punched and choked the child on a regular basis as forms of discipline, and said the last time she choked Paris was the night before she was found dead.
