Fernando Almanza facing life prison term after rape conviction

Posted: 10/09/2013

FLORENCE, AZ - Authorities say a ranch hand is facing a life prison sentence after being convicted of raping a 4-year-old girl in Winkelman.

Pinal County prosecutors say Fernando Almanza was accused of luring the victim to an isolated part of the ranch and sexually assaulted her in October 2011.

His sentencing is set for Nov. 8 and prosecutors say Almanza faces a life sentence with the possibility of parole after 35 years.

Almanza was employed at the ranch where the victim's mother lived. He was a ranch hand and fixed fences and tended the animals.

The girl told her mother that Almanza molested her. The woman contacted the county Sheriff's Office and detectives conducted an investigation.

What’s legal status of preschooler’s rapist?

Thursday, November 7, 2013 10:24

Obviously the Periódico de la República de Arizona (Arizona Republic) wants to shield its readers from the horrific details of a rape perpetrated on a 4-year-old preschooler.  That could be the only discernable reason why the recent report omits pertinent information about Fernando Almanza, the child rapist.

Almanza, 51, — even his age was omitted from the newspaper’s scant account, a fact we found on the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office website —  was convicted by a Pinal County jury which found him guilty in the Oct. 2011 rape of the little girl at the Winkelman, AZ ranch where he was employed as a ranch hand. Almanza will be in court on Nov. 8, where he faces a life sentence with the possibility of parole after 35 years. At 5’10 and 190 lbs. the small child was no match for this vicious brut.

Conspicuously missing from the report is the status of Almanza. Inquiring minds are interested in his legal standing.  Is this sterling character a U.S. citizen or an illegal alien?

Are we to assume that  these fine folks are American citizens or might they illegally have slipped into the United States to continue their lawlessness? Will we ever know?  If the reports appear in the pages of the pro-illegal Periódico de la República de Arizona, the answer is ‘probably not.’ And where is the newspaper’s child advocate Laurie Roberts, whose voice rightfully rings loud and clear in such cases? Her silence raises suspicions.
