Louisiana man pleads guilty in child sex case

LAFAYETTE, La. | A Louisiana man pleaded guilty this week to traveling to North Carolina to have sex with a minor, according to a news release from the office of U.S. Attorney Stephanie Finley.

The case stems from the arrest of Ray Paul Dionne, 55, of Iberia, La., on Aug. 28, 2012, in Brunswick County on charges related to a sex offender being at a location where a child was present. Dionne was convicted of two counts of aggravated incest in 2003 in Louisiana, court records show.

Dionne pleaded guilty Tuesday before U.S. District Judge Richard T. Haik, to one count of travel with the intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct, the release said.

Dionne admitted that he traveled to North Carolina on two occasions in June and August 2012 to engage in sexual contact with a minor under the age of 12, according to evidence presented at the guilty plea. On Aug. 27, 2012, when law enforcement learned that Dionne was staying at a North Carolina residence, they entered the residence and discovered Dionne lying in bed with a child, the release said.

He faces five to 30 years in prison, five years to life of supervised release and a $250,000 fine. A sentencing date has not been set.

The case was investigated by the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office, the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office and the U.S. Marshal's Service, among others.
