HENRICO COUNTY
Evelyn Faye Pillow, 85, was convicted Friday of assaulting an infant and sentenced to 400 hours of community service in Highland Springs, Va.

An 85-year-old babysitter pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of misdemeanor assault in a plea deal involving an infant entrusted to her care.

Evelyn Faye Pillow entered her plea Friday in Virginia’s Henrico Circuit Court as the infant’s weeping family watched, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported.

The elderly woman was sentenced to 400 hours of community service.

Medical experts had been lined up to testify that the infant showed signs of shaken-baby syndrome, including eye and brain damage.

Pillow called 911 and the baby’s family when he became unresponsive last year while she was caring for him.
The family said their son appeared to have fully recovered.
