A 9-week-old girl was found dead in a South Side apartment Sunday morning, authorities said. San
Antonio Police received a call around 8 a.m. from an upstairs unit in
the Aristocrat Apartments in the 500 block of West Hutchins Place,
saying Jazlynn Garcia wasn't breathing, according to authorities. Police
wouldn't say whether Jazlynn appeared to have died naturally or if
there were any signs of trauma, but several crime scene investigators
were processing evidence inside the corner apartment. According to the Bexar County medical examiner's office, officials will conduct an autopsy on the infant Monday. Vincent
Castro, 22, who lives under the apartment where Jazylnn was found, said
police took the infant's parents in separate patrol vehicles for
questioning. He said the mother was crying as she was put into the car.
While he said he didn't hear any loud noises coming from upstairs this
morning, he said he has heard the young couple fighting before. “They've
fought a couple of times, pretty loudly,” Castro said. “But I came home
at 4 a.m. and didn't hear anything this morning.” Castro said
he has seen the couple with Jazylnn, and they appeared to take care of
her — she was always well-covered when they walked outside, he said.
The couple has lived in the complex for a few months, Castro said, but
kept mostly to themselves. “Nobody really talked to them,” he said.
