A Williamsburg woman remains in jail on a $50,000 cash bond after allegedly kicking her 6-year-old child in a drunken rage.

Williamsburg
Police Public Affairs Officer Shawn Jackson said officers were called
out around 4:30 p.m. Friday afternoon to 430 Mt. Morgan Road, where
29-year-old Latosha Bachler Watson was allegedly drunk and assaulting
members of her family.

Witnesses said Watson became irate with
her two young children and an adult family member. Watson allegedly
kicked her 6-year-old daughter and assaulted her adult brother when he
tried to protect his niece.

Watson fled on foot prior to
officers’ arrival, but was found a few minutes later by Officer
Jackson, lying face down on the ground attempting to hide behind an out
building. Jackson said Watson smelled strongly of alcohol, had slurred
speech and was unsteady on her feet.

According to Officer Jackson, Watson told police she had been drinking beer.

“I
believe she took her beer drinking a step too far that day,” Jackson
said. “Unfortunately, her six-year-old daughter fell victim to the
dangerous situation and had to deal with that from her own mother.”

Watson
was arrested and charged with second-degree criminal abuse,
fourth-degree assault (domestic violence), alcohol intoxication and
resisting arrest. Officers indicated they were familiar with the
subject but were unsure if she had a criminal record.

Chief
Wayne Bird immediately called for Social Services to respond to the
home that night. The children were placed with a family member pending
the outcome of the case. The young victim didn’t require any emergency
medical attention. According to police, the 6-year-old’s injuries were
non-life threatening and included skin discoloration and possible
bruising.

Jackson and Bird were assisted at the scene by
Assistant Chief Rick Mosley, K-9 Officer Brandon Prewitt and Officer
Brandon White.
