A child who was the focus of an Amber Alert Thursday has been found safe and his father is under arrest.

Williamsport police said Johnnie Drummond surrendered to police Friday morning at a home in Trout Run.

The search for Drummond and his son, 18-month-old A'dryn, began
Thursday after he argued with the boy's mother and took off with the
child. He managed to elude police all day.

Police said there is another warrant out for Drummond's arrest for
another matter. Officials from Berks County sheriff's Department said
they have been searching for him since August. Drummond, who had been
convicted on felony drug charges, was given a temporary pass to leave a
halfway house but never returned.

A toddler was safely returned to his mother Friday following what
city police said was a 23-hour hunt for him and the man who allegedly
kidnapped the 18-month-old boy.Johnnie A. Drummond III, 27,
formerly of this city, is accused of abducting his son while holding
the boy's mother at knifepoint inside the sport utility vehicle she was
driving around Williamsport Thursday morning. The assistance of
an unnamed bystander wasn't enough for the woman to pull her son from
the black 2006 Mercury Mariner, and police said Drummond stole the SUV
about 9 a.m. Thursday and fled with the child they shared. While
police interviewed the uninjured woman Thursday afternoon, the stolen
vehicle was reportedly spotted around the area by people who learned
about the abduction through public reports police issued through the
Amber Alert notification system.Gamble Township resident Mike
Raker helped police capture Drummond when he crashed the vehicle in
rural countryside north of the city Friday morning. The toddler, A'dryn Drummond, was treated and released from Williamsport Hospital for minor injuries.Raker
said he allowed the Drummonds to enter his Rose Valley Road home
because they were in a wreck and he knew they needed help after they
walked a short distance from where they wrecked.Raker said he had just returned from a West Virginia trip and didn'trealize
there was an Amber Alert for an abducted child until his own
15-year-old son was being picked up for school Friday morning. As
Drummond was standing in Raker's parking lot using a phone, the school
bus driver recognized him from the photograph published in the
Sun-Gazette."That looks like the guy in the paper they have an Amber Alert out for," Raker said the bus driver told him. When Raker told the bus driver that the toddler was inside keeping warm, they realized the Drummonds were there.County
emergency telephone operators said they received a call at 7:30 a.m.
Friday from a resident in the 4000 block of Rose Valley Road who was
holding Johnnie Drummond captive at gunpoint.Raker said he
pointed a rifle at Drummond only until he realized he wasn't armed
himself. When Drummond proved he wasn't carrying any weapons, Raker
said he instructed him to stay in the driveway while he stood a few
feet away holding the gun, which wasn't pointed at anyone.Raker recalls getting a call from police who told him to go inside the house when they arrived. When about 20 police cars swarmed the driveway, Raker said he went back inside and allowed police to go about their business.Drummond did not resist police efforts to take him into custody, according to city police Agent Eric Delker.Raker said Drummond cooperated with his instructions before police arrived."He
didn't threaten us; he was real cooperative," Raker said. "He wanted to
give up; he saw that we were taking care of him and his son."City police Capt. Glenn Ardrey said A'dryn Drummond was returned to his mother after being found at the home.Raker's wife Janet said the boy's mother and grandmother arrived at her home later to retrieve A'dryn."They were ecstatic to get their little guy back," she said. The Rakers fed the boy cookies and milk while keeping him out of harm's way."He was very hungry and very thirsty," Janet Raker said.Investigators
don't know what caused Drummond to wreck the vehicle, which they said
was found resting on its roof inside a ditch filled with 1 1/2 feet of
water.Police don't know how the toddler sustained his minor injuries.Johnnie Drummond was arraigned in district court Friday on numerous charges, including robbery, kidnapping and assault.
