About a week after an infant was found in an Auburn apartment complex
dumpster, Child Protective Services says the girl remains in their
custody.

The baby is doing well -- despite allegedly being thrown in the trash by her 19-year-old mother, Alison Lesch of Auburn.

DCS spokeswoman Anne Houseworth says it's now up to a judge to decide
where the girl will go. The judge will accept recommendations about
guardianship from DCS, the current guardian and medical providers.

Although hearing dates and details are kept private, the judge can also
review petitions from family members who would like to assume
guardianship.

Houseworth says the case has generated widespread interest not only in
the Auburn infant -- but other wards of the state as well.

Meanwhile, Lesch faces a preliminary charge of attempted murder and is being held in the DeKalb County Jail without bond.
