YASMIN MENDIOLA - 15 yo - Newport DE

Police say Yasmin Mendiola's mother last saw her 15-year-old daughter at 6 Monday
morning.
Yasmin's mom called police around 10:30 Tuesday morning and said Yasmin hadn't come
home, and that she'd gotten a call from someone named Zavlos who said she'd never see
Yasmin again, and that the teen was being taken to Toronto.
The caller also mentioned Wilmington, and city detectives have been distributing
flyers with Yasmin's picture at Latin American community centers there.
She's also been listed as a missing person with area police departments.

Investigators say her mother received a call stating " You will never see your daughter again..." From the Newport Police Department: Yasmin Mendiola, a 15 year old Hispanic female, described as 5'0" tall,
weighing 140 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes was reported
missing on today's date. Yasmin was last seen at 6:00 a.m. on November
30th when she was supposed to be leaving for school. Yasmin did not go
to school on this date. On December 1, 2009 at 10:24 AM her
mother called to report that Yasmin had not returned home. Yasmin's
mother received a phone call at approx. 1:00 PM from a blocked phone
number and a male stated "You will never see your daughter again, we
are taking her to Toronto (Canada)."

The anonymous caller also mentioned the City of Wilmington and the name Zavlos. Details
behind the name Zavlos are unknown at this point. Wilmington Police
Detectives were notified and flyers are to be distributed to patrol
units and the Latin American Community Centers. Yasmin was also put
into Criminal Justice databases as a missing person. Yasmin has her lip
pierced and her clothing description is unknown. Anyone with

A teen who was reported missing
yesterday – turned up at Dickenson High School today. Police say 15
year old Yasmin Mendiola ran off with an Elsmere teen and now
counseling has been offered to the family. Mendiola disappeared Monday
– and after her mother reported her missing, she received a call saying
she’d never see her daughter again and that she was being taken to
Toronto. Police continue to investigate that call and may file charges
against the caller.
