"Baby" KERNS - 3 Weeks - Shell Knob MO
(Shell Knob, MO) -- A three-week-old infant is critical condition and the child's mother is behind bars.
The Stone County Sheriff says on Tuesday, deputies were called to a home in Shell Knob to check on a suicidal female.
When they got there, they found 19-year-old Jayde Kerns and the infant on the bed with a heater next to them.
Both were taken to a Springfield hospital. The infant remains in intensive care.
Kerns was released from care, then taken into to custody. She faces child endangerment charges.
The infant was placed in state custody due to the living conditions at the home and the state that the child was found in.

Update: Stone Co. Baby found with Suicidal Mother was Severely Dehydrated
Deputies were called to an address in the Turkey Mountain Estates in Shell Knob Tuesday for reports of a suicidal woman with a child.
That woman was 19-year old Jayde Kerns. Deputies found her and her 3 week old daughter lying on a bed, next to a heater.
The baby was severely dehydrated and rushed to a Springfield Hospital.
As of Thursday the baby is still hospitalized. Captain Tim Gideon of Stone County Sheriff's Dept says he did not receive a condition update Thursday.
When the baby is released from the hospital, she will be in the custody of the Missouri Division of Social Services.
